David Gately best bets & Expert picks for Caulfield 02/02/22

Racing was at MOONEE VALLEY on Saturday on SOFT-6 track with Rail TRUE. The track played well, you certainly had to handle the Soft ground which was the real key. The inside lanes held up all day but there were three run-on winners.

In Sydney it was ROSEHILL on GOOD-4 to GOOD-3 track. Rail was out 6m. There was quite a savage inside bias/ advantage on the day. We know this certainly can be the case at Rosehill when track is firm and rail is 6m.

I looked back at the last five meetings where rail was 6m (or 7m) and in three of them (17th Nov/ 5th June/ 3rd April) the track was certainly leader-ish and it was tough to make ground. The other two meetings (6th Oct/ 19th June) the track plated well with no mad pattern evident so all this talk (post-meeting of course) that it was a living certainty that this was how this would play out is a bit hard to swallow.

Riders (reportedly) walked the track before race 1 and declared it was ‘’definitely quicker’’ inside… From a punters perspective, I think these dynamite track patters are much easier to ‘’swallow’’ when it’s nature that creates it… Much harder (in 2022 with all of our science) if it’s inadvertently created, before a race has even been run !?!?

Anyway, as I’ve been saying for years, if this (or any sport) only caters to those with ‘’elite’’ knowledge (before the race I mean) it does not have a long term future…

 

Run of the Day

Well, it was a ‘’one horse race’’ this week with 75% of the 1627 votes going the way of MARABI. This left only 10% for OVERPASS, 8% for BEST OF BORDEAUX and 7% for KEMALPASA.
