The Spring Carnival is starting to heat up and Daniel Pryor is back with his Around The Grounds selections for another huge Saturday of racing.

Last weekend delivered the first Group 1 of the season with Autumn Glow winning the Winx Stakes, and attention now turns to Caulfield for the Group 1 Memsie Stakes.

Cosmic Crusader chases a hat-trick, while established stars including Mr Brightside, Jimmysstar, Tom Kitten and Angel Capital are joined by the emerging Autumn Boy, Beiwacht and Planet Red.

Last year's winner Treasurethemoment adds even more depth to a quality weight-for-age contest.

Rosehill complements the Caulfield program with two Group 3 features for the three-year-olds, the Up And Coming Stakes and San Domenico Stakes, providing another early look at horses who could become major players deeper into the spring.

Pryor's full package found nine winners last Saturday, including Autumn Glow in the Winx Stakes, while Boniface delivered for followers of his free tips.

This week he has six free selections across Caulfield and Rosehill.

Around The Grounds with Daniel Pryor – Caulfield & Rosehill 29/8/26

Caulfield Race 1 – #5 Butternut Princess – $5.50

Butternut Princess has been good in both runs this preparation and now reaches an ideal point third-up.

There is a significant gear change with the winkers coming off and blinkers going on for the first time, while the switch to a senior jockey signals plenty of intent.

With clear running when the pressure goes on, she should be right in the fight to the line.

Caulfield Race 5 – #6 Shadhavar – $2.80

Shadhavar returned in excellent order with a strong first-up victory in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes.

She now gets back against her own sex and draws ideally to utilise her natural tactical speed.

The 3kg rise in weight presents another challenge, but she should be able to settle right up on speed and make her rivals chase.

If she gets things her own way in front, she'll be very difficult to run down.

Caulfield Race 7 – #9 American Eagle – $4.40

American Eagle made an immediate impression on debut when defeating Judas Tree, and the form from that race has already started stacking up.

Judas Tree subsequently won at Sandown, while another runner from the race travelled to Sydney and won.

American Eagle still did a few things wrong on debut, including getting his head up when restrained early, so there should be natural improvement to come.

He remains at 1200m and has produced a sharp trial ahead of his return. The combination of Mark Zahra and Anthony & Sam Freedman is another major positive.

He's an exciting horse with plenty of upside.

Rosehill Race 4 – #6 Transcend – $4.20

Transcend crossed the line first last start only to lose the race in the stewards' room after a successful protest.

He found an excellent position in running that day and, despite drawing slightly wider this time, should again be able to settle into a suitable spot.

He's racing well enough to win and I'm happy to stick with him.

Rosehill Race 6 – #1 She’s An Artist – $4

She's An Artist resumes and makes her first appearance outside Victoria with some strong form lines behind her.

She has performed well fresh previously and should settle somewhere in the second half before getting the race shape required to build momentum late.

The 1.5kg apprentice claim is another positive.

If she returns anywhere near her best fresh form, expect her to be launching late.

Rosehill Race 9 – #7 Althoff – $2.10

Althoff was excellent first-up when producing strong late sectionals from the back to finish second before going one better at his next appearance.

He gets another race with enough tempo to allow him to settle before unleashing his finish.

There is additional weight to carry this time, but his current form is difficult to knock.

Expect him to be charging home again.
