Cranbourne's biggest day of the year rolls around with the $500,000 Cup to be run and won in race 9 on the program.

A solid field has been assembled for the feature with a Group 1 placegetter, a multiple Group 2 winner and a Group 3 winner amongst the horses lining up in the field of 11.

Other highlights on the program include:

  • Exciting import ‘Jimmysstar’ make his second Australian start in the last race on the program
  • A handy edition of the Apache Cat Classic over the 1000m, with the likes of ‘Jigsaw’, ‘Generation’ and ‘Midwest’ lining up.

The track is currently rated as a Good 4 but with rain forecasted for Friday and Saturday, we will be around the Soft 6 mark come race time.

The running rail is out 3m the entire circuit, which historically sees the track play heavily in favour of horses drawn the inside barrier regardless of position in running.

Looks like an excellent betting card and there are two that stood out in the best bets.

Cody has a 29% strike rate at Cranbourne.

Cranbourne Tips and Best Bets

Cranbourne Race 2 #2 Wiggum $3.30

He is putting together a pretty handy record with 3 wins and 2 placings from his 5-start career.

He made a good step up in class to win down the Flemington straight last start, holding off a handy horse in ‘Barber’.

The map plays perfectly into his favour here with the gun draw of barrier 5, where he should be able to sit just off the pace.

Gets Damian Lane aboard for the ride here, who has not only been in solid recent form with 19 winners from his last 100 rides, but also boasts an impressive 21.3% winning strike rate at Cranbourne throughout his great career so far.

Race favourite ‘Brave Mead’ looks the danger but has an awful draw with the outside barrier and it is very tough to win at Cranbourne from there.

The South Australian looks a great bet here.

Caulfield Race 8 #3 Midwest $4.00

Off the back of two sharp jump out performances at Flemington and Balnarring respectively, this Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained speedster will be really hard to beat here fresh.

He can carve across the field to find the front alongside ‘Jigsaw’ who has drawn outside of him and with the big difference in weight between them, should have ‘Jigsaw’ covered.

He handles the wet and the track pattern is perfect for him.

Look for him to burn them off early and be too speedy for his rivals.
