Thoroughbred racing does not get much better than it does on Saturday.
Three Group 1 races, including the $3 million Caulfield Guineas, are set to be run and won at Caulfield.
A good mix of top favourites which look extremely hard to beat and quality horses representing good value are scattered throughout this ten-race program.
The track is currently rated as a Soft 5 after rain on Thursday but will dry up and get back to a Good 4 by Saturday.
The running rail is in the True position, which should see the track play evenly with slight disadvantages to horses settling at the rear from inside (1-3m) or outside (8+) barriers.
Speaking of the good bets to be had, there are two that come with a high degree of confidence this week.
Cody is on a 3 month win streak!
Caulfield Race 2 #2 Appin Girl $2.70
A talented 3YO filly from the O'Dea & Hoysted stable who returns from a spell here first-up.
She showed good ability as a 2YO and is already a Listed winner and Group 2 placegetter.
She had a nice trial victory at Doomben over the 1000m back in August and has been kept fresh since.
The stable don’t often bring horses to Victoria but when they do, it results in success 40% of the time as they have had 6 winners from 15 runners.
O’Dea & Hoysted also have a 40% winning strike rate at Caulfield.
Top jockey Mark Zahra takes the ride and she looks to get the perfect run in the race behind the speed from barrier 5.
Not an overly strong field and she can be too good for them.
Caulfield Race 6 #8 Biometric $8.00
Open race and this 7YO looks like a top chance of resuming as a winner at a great price.
He has had 4 jump-outs leading in (2 in July and 2 in September) so he should be prepared for a bold showing here fresh.
He finished off his last preparation in good fashion with placings in both Group 3 and Listed races over this distance of the 1400m.
Gets Mick Dee aboard for the ride who is in solid recent form with 16 winners from his last 100 rides and his trainers Ben, Will & JD Hayes have been in great form since forming their partnership, going at a 20.3% winning strike rate.
Should get the run of the race in behind the speed from barrier 1 in what looks to be a slowly run race and will be right amongst the finish with even luck.
