What a competitive Caulfield Cup we have this Saturday.
Six dollars the field and horses trained out of 4 different countries competing amongst the field of 19.
While the Group 1 feature is grabbing all of the headlines, from a punting perspective, the eyes are on the rest of the program.
Three Group 2s, three Group 3s and two Listed races also feature on the Caulfield card and there are some excellent betting prospects.
The track is currently rated as a Good 4 and with a 29-degree day on Friday and only a 9% chance of rain on Saturday, it will remain as a Good 4 rating.
After previously being out 12m on Wednesday, the running rail comes back into the 3m position for the entire circuit.
This historically sees a disadvantage to be a backmarker but especially horses settling midfield or worse from wide barriers.
Plenty of good bets to be had on this program and I have found two in particular that come with plenty of confidence.
Cody is on a 3 month win streak!
Caulfield Race 4 #2 Don Corleone $3.90
Gets his chance for a deserved second career win here.
He has been building towards a victory and looks primed to do so here fourth-up this preparation.
The 3YO Extreme Choice Colt was good last start when running on well late to finish 3rd behind ‘Stretan Angel’ and ‘I Am Unstoppable’ in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes over 1100m at Flemington.
A slight rise in distance to the 1200m will suit and Mark Zahra sticks for the ride.
It's the easiest race he has faced for some time and considering he is a multiple Group 1 placegetter, he gets in well at the weights here at 57kg.
Drawn well in barrier 2 and is a top winning chance.
Caulfield Race 7 #2 Skew Wiff $4.80
She was the subject of a solid betting move late before being scratched at the barriers at Flemington two weeks ago.
The Group 1 winner from New Zealand looks like an excellent chance here with a lot looking to be in her favour.
She comes into this third-up and the last time she was third-up, she finished 2nd to Australian Guineas winner ‘Legarto’ over the 1600m.
She draws well in barrier 2 and will get the perfect run in behind the pace.
Opie Bosson takes the ride, who has an elite record with 31 winners from his last 100 rides and a 20% winning strike rate at Caulfield.
Has plenty of class and she will show it here, putting her hand up as a genuine Golden Eagle contender.
