Caulfield Tips and Best Bets for Saturday 6/4/24

It's very easy to look at this Caulfield program and think, ‘there's not much quality in this’, but the two feature races of the program are not your regular Group 3s.

The Victoria Handicap and Easter Cup both bolster strong fields with some high-end talent contesting them against some very promising up-and-comers.

As a result, the markets of these races are wide open and there are two at double figures that look far greater winning chances than their odds suggest.

Caulfield Race 8 #3 The Inferno $13.00

Loved the way he finished off over the 1200m first-up in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes, when running 5th in a race won by the superstar ‘Imperatriz’.

He finished right on the tails of ‘I Am Me’ and ‘Bella Nipotina’ and if either of those horses were in this race, they would be very close to favouritism.

He rises to the 1400m second-up (8:4-1-0) and importantly, gets a big drop in the weights down to 55.5kg.

He has drawn well in barrier 3 and while he hasn't won in two and a half years, he gets a great chance here in a far easiest contest than he is used to contesting.

 

Caulfield Race 9 #2 Future History $15.00

This is the bet of the day.

Absolutely absurd he is this price despite an average run first-up in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes.

He rises in trip here to the 2000m, where he has a win and 2 placings from 3 starts at the distance in Australia and comes into this second-up (3-1-2-0).

This 6yo Gelding from the Ciaron Maher stable beat ‘First Immortal’ in the Spring and the Mark Kavanagh 4yo is currently the $2.80 favourite.

Drawn well in barrier 6 and will settle closer than he did first-up.

I am expecting a massive performance here and he is an excellent bet to have at a big price.
