The feature racing in Melbourne continues to roll on deep into 2023.
This Saturday sees Caulfield host Zipping Classic Day including 8 black type races with 2 Group 2's, 3 Group 3's and 3 Listed races.
The feature race of the program is the time-honoured Group 2 Zipping Classic ran over 2400m and has a field of 8 to contest.
‘Duke De Sessa’ from the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace stable currently holds favouritism at $3.70 ahead of ‘Muramasa’ ($4.20) and ‘Vow And Declare’ ($4.40).
The track is currently a Good 4 but with rain forecasted for Friday night and 12mm to fall on Saturday, the track will end up in the Soft 7-Heavy 8 range.
The running rail is out 5m the entire circuit, which will see it being favourable to be on-pace or midfield from inside-middle barriers.
Few nice bets to be had and there are a couple this week that come with confidence.
Cody has over $1,700 cash profit over the last 90 days.
Caulfield Tips and Best Bets
Caulfield Race 5 #1 Just Folk $3.80
Tough to go against the flying ‘Ain’tnodeeldun’ but with the wet track, the odds go in favour of this 7yo Gelding from the Gaving Bedggood stable.
He has had a number of great runs this preparation without a victory but gets the chance to do just that here.
He ran 3rd in the Cranbourne Cup last Saturday, when being left in front for the swoopers to come over the top.
This time around he will be able to land up on-pace with the stablemate ‘Keats’ and I suspect they will dictate the terms to suit themselves.
He has a great record on wet tracks, particularly Heavy if we get to that range on Saturday (3 wins from 5) and he will take some running down fourth-up.
Caulfield Race 9 #5 Wollombi $6.50
This runner hit the line strongly last start at Flemington over the 1400m in a Group 3 behind the handy 'Skew Wiff'.
That horse went on to run 5th in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
He beat the favourite 'Revolutionary Miss' home on that occasion and they both rise 1kg here from that run.
Jamie Kah sticks for the ride and she has a solid record at Caulfield with a 15.1% winning strike rate at the track.
This is 2nd amongst jockeys riding at the meeting on Saturday.
He will greatly appreciate the sting out of the ground with the wet track and from a gun draw in barrier 2, should be coming home strong up the inside.
