Betting Tips: Early Market Movers at Rosehill & Caulfield 15/8/26

Stay Silent made followers of last week's Market Movers article anything but quiet, saluting at $7.50 after being hammered early in the week.

This week we have again analysed the significant market moves at both major venues, highlighting where the key support has flowed in early betting.

At Caulfield, it could be the Ciaron Maher show!

The shrewd stable has a number of runners attracting support and may have given their owners the green light to bet up.

Whilst at Rosehill, our motivational alignment theory is again at play, with some of racing’s biggest ownership groups represented and a MyRacehorse runner for Michael Freedman creating plenty of interest.

 

 

 

Tornado Valley

The Ciaron Maher stable have always held a huge opinion of this colt and appear to have told Nathan Bennett and the ownership group to bet up first-up.

They genuinely believed they had a Golden Slipper horse on their hands during his two-year-old season, before the preparation failed to go to plan and those lofty ambitions were put on hold.

This could be the first-up crush for redemption! The stable talked him up enormously to connections earlier in his career and the early money suggests he is finally ready to deliver on that promise.

Ghana’s Akan

Attracted a sprinkling of support here last start when firming from $4.40 into $3.90 before running a sound fourth despite being trapped wide and having little luck.

That performance should bring her right on from a fitness perspective and, with a more economical passage this time, we could see a much more dynamic finishing sprint.

The market support last start suggested she was already flying at home. Provided she has trained on, expect her to be right in the finish.

 

Evaporate

Looks the class runner in a race where favourite Cosmic Crusader appears vulnerable at the short price second-up.

Evaporate possesses enough tactical speed to overcome the wider draw and I expect them to show plenty of intent early, potentially even rolling forward to take up the running.

If the market is right and he is forward enough from a fitness perspective, he could take control of this race from the front and prove extremely difficult to run down.

 

Recommendation

Another Ciaron Maher runner who the stable holds in high regard but has probably underperformed against their lofty expectations so far this preparation.

The key change is Blake Shinn taking over, which could make all the difference. He is unlikely to die wondering and should provide the positive ride this horse appears to be crying out for.

Now rock-hard fit, expect Shinn to be aggressive early and look for the lead or outside-leader position. From there, Recommendation gets his chance to finally deliver.

 

 

Steel Will

There is huge motivational alignment surrounding this high-priced colt, with Chris Waller preparing him for influential owner Sir Owen Glenn and James McDonald taking the ride.

Waller is particularly dangerous with these valuable young horses once they get deeper into a preparation, and Steel Will should have taken plenty of improvement from his first-up win at Wyong.

The trip away should have brought him on nicely and with both Waller and J Mac involved, expect plenty of intent as he makes the jump into stronger Saturday company.

 

Hovland

Was sent north to Eagle Farm for an easier assignment last start and duly got the job done, earning his opportunity to return to stronger Sydney grade.

The O’Shea/Charlton stable are masters at placing progressive horses and the influential ownership group involved provides another reason to expect they have taken no chances with his preparation.

This is clearly tougher, but the booking of Zac Lloyd is a significant upgrade and could extract another level from him.

 

Transcend

Our ownership motivation theory comes strongly into play here with this MyRacehorse runner for Michael Freedman.

The commercial opportunity to deliver results for such a large ownership operation is obvious, and you can expect the stable has put plenty of thought into having Transcend ready to peak second-up.

He had genuine excuses first-up on the Kensington track when racing a touch fresh before finishing fourth. With that run taking the edge off him, he should settle much better this time around.

Tommy Berry taking the ride only adds further confidence. Yes.

 

Kimberley Secrets

Nick Olive knows the right horse to bring to Sydney and wouldn't be making another trip unless this mare was showing him all the right signs at home.

She was excellent at Rosehill last start when narrowly beaten over the same 1100m journey, finishing second in a field of 13.

Barrier 14 presents a challenge, but she possesses the tactical speed to overcome it. With the added fitness now on her side, she can burn the candle at both ends and still be there when it matters.
