Caulfield Tips
Awash
Maher/Eustace runner who is working through the grades nicely after winning three straight, and again appears well placed here.
He is still lightly raced hence the ceiling could be much higher, and the current form suggests he is right up to Benchmark 70 level.
From gate 10 the rider will be looking for a position midfield in the moving line, where if they are swooping, he will be well-suited.
Vivy Air
Comes via a hot form race where finished midfield 9 of 13 behind the smart Joliestar in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.
This race appears a touch weaker, and she should be much more competitive at this level.
Fitter now they may attempt to ride a touch closer, as her get-back racing pattern has proved detrimental at her past few starts.
Thalassophile
Is now rock-hard fit coming off 4 solid hit-outs this preparation, all in good grade.
This race appears weaker than what she faced last time out in the Group 2 Matriarch at Flemington, where she got back however still hit the line late.
It would not surprise to see a change of tactics here, with her possibly to be ridden closer to the speed to take advantage of the residual fitness.
Lauda Sion
Japanese import who is on debut here in Australia for a high-profile owner and the master trainer Chris Waller.
The owner will expect results, especially due to the price paid and high-quality nature of the stock.
He must be showing them good early signs at home as typically Waller first-up runners have plenty left in the tank for later in the prep.
This looks a different proposition here!
Watch betting again late.
Rosehill Tips
Canara
Waller runner who ran well on debut to place 2 of 7, when possibly should have won after encountering significant traffic issues throughout.
As is typical of the stable training methods they are often not set to break any records early in the preparation, especially first up, hence we can view the recent effort as exceptional and possibly “under-done” in terms of fitness.
If she has taken any improvement from the debut run she could be ready to explode in this!
Yes.
Shadows Of Love
Is simply flying and since they have been riding her in a stalking position in-run she has looked unbeatable!
She still has the tactical seed to take a position and I suspect from the wide draw (gate 11), Tim Clark will press forward and look to slot in behind the leading pair.
The rider may need some luck from the barrier, however he also has the option to lead and then allow the first few to go around him, for a trail.
Rustic Steel
Kris Lees runner who finally finds the right race after competing in hot grade all the way through this preparation.
The last start 5 of 12 finish in The Hunter was full of merit, on a day when it was hard to make ground, where he still worked home to suggest he is going very well.
He is also blessed by a number of key scratching’s here and with the race falling away, has every opportunity to win.
Little Mix
Returns from Melbourne and is now searching for the hat-trick in this, following two solid wins.
She is now back in stakes grade and appears to be going as well as ever, hence the jump up in class should be no issue.
She also drops significantly in weight right down to 53kg after lumping 60.5kg to win at Flemington last start.
