Betting Tips: Early Market Movers at Caulfield and Rosehill 12/10/24

We made it three winning months in a row last week when St Lawrence bolted home at $9.70. Looking forward to this week there is plenty of more price action in early markets.

It is very evident that punters have attacked a number of key chances.

At Caulfield the early market is keen on a tough on-pace mare, who has speed map favours in the Group 1 Might and Power.

Whilst at Rosehill an interesting runner for the Waller yard arrives as a first-up specialist, who ticks all the boxes for the stable to show good intent.

 

 

Caulfield Tips

 

I Am Velvet 

I Am Velvet could not have been more impressive winning here over 1400m last start when had plenty of excuses, and yet still was far too good. 

She could be a very special filly and although entered against some smart ones here, she looks right up to it.

Look for them to push forward from the low draw (barrier 3) and take bad luck out of the equation. 

 

A Little Deep

Above average Ciaron Maher mare who has won 2 from 3 this preparation and found the wrong part of the track when only just missing last start.  

She returns to Group level racing here and looks to be a more furnished racehorse now, with the required experience to make an impact at this level.

The jockey booking of Mark Zahra is a massive tick, as he would have had the choice of a few of these. 

 

Harracaine 

Has won his past 5 starts for the big betting Nick Ryan yard, who no doubt would have got plenty out of this one with betting operators.

He simply loves the tough staying trips and has the great asset of tactical speed, to sprint when needed or take a preferred position.

The first-up effort when winning over an unsuitable 1630m at Flemington was perfect, and he can improve significantly again here. 
 

Deny Knowledge 

Plenty want to tip this mare in the Group 1 Might And Power this week and I can see why.

She gets map favours here with a potentially soft lead.

She did enough first-up against the good horses in the Underwood where entitled to weaken after a torrid wide run.

If the track is showing any signs of a leader bias at this stage of the day, her price will shorten even further.

 

Rosehill Tips

 

Henlein

Is racing well with a sound Group 2 second placing in the Bill Stutt Stakes last start at Moonee Valley, behind the smart Evaporate.

His form should stand up here coming out of a hot race and back to what appears to be slightly weaker grade.

Although drawn wide Tommy can cruise across and find a position mid-field in the moving line. 

 

Kovalica

Was well supported ($8.50 into $6.50) in betting to win the Epsom last start, hence must be showing them enough at home to suggest he is going very well. 

He had excuses last time out when held up at a crucial stage and possibly should have finished much closer to the winner.

Rock-hard fit now and given a soft draw in gate 2, he is ready to explode. 

 

Gringotts 

Was an enormous run first-up (2 of 10) at Randwick when simply charged home to just miss (0.2 lengths) on the line.

He was firm in the market on that occasion where the betting suggested he would run well.

From a mid-draw (gate 7) he has the opportunity to blend into the race perfectly here and if they can position forward of midfield with cover in the moving line, he can explode again late. 

 

Olentia    

First-up specialist (4:3-1-0) who ticks all the Waller boxes (draws low and senior rider booked) to be ridden with intent here early in the preparation.

She had Group 1 form to round out last prep, where wasn’t far off the top-class mares Zougotcha and Atishu.

This is weaker.

The stable will have her primed for this and if more support comes close to start time, bet with confidence!
