Best punters in May 2016

May was another month of solid punting performances with some massive profits made by punters and Australia's racing media. Overall only 28% of punters and media who either bet or tip through our sites made a profit during the month.

There were some extremely close finishes in each of the two monthly award categories. In the Win Profit on Turnover (POT) category multiple award winner and 2015 Tipster of the Year Formulator was leading the race up to the final few days of the month. He still finished third with a very impressive 114% POT with average odds of $16.

His competition in May came from Sky Racing caller Anthony Manton who returned to Australia only a few years ago after calling races in Malaysia. Manton continues a recent run of outstanding performances from Australian race callers adding further strength behind recent research that suggest callers are usually astute form analysts. Manton published 18 selections during May, finding 13 winners at average odds of $3.65. His effort included Kembla Grange last Saturday where he picked six of the eight winners including one winner at $15.50.

Manton looked like he had it in the bag until 31 year old RoseDogg from Southern NSW found three winners on Tuesday, the final day of the month, to finish with 185% POT, 22 points ahead of Manton who finished with 163% POT.

There was another close battle in the cash profit category, where absolute profit is used to measure punting success. Less than $600 seperated the top two punters who are each no stranger to the Tipster of the Month awards. SaturdayStandouts finished on top with $12,420 profit from 308 $100 bets placed during the month. Close behind was TryMe making $11,879.
