Feature Group 1 racing heats up in the West this week with the running of the Railway Stakes over 1600m, which as always attracts a number of interesting Eastern state raiders.
I'm with a local on this occasion who won 5 races straight last preparation and returned with a bang, when getting home hard from well back in the Asia Beau Stakes over 1400m first-up.
A close watch on betting is advised on both Yonkers and Ironclad who have both travelled West in the hope of plundering the Perth riches
Track Conditions
The Ascot track is currently rated a Good 4 with the rail in the True position for the entire circuit.
Some showers are predicted on Friday in Perth, before fine conditions on race day.
The surface will play fair, with both on and off-speed profiles suited.
As always refer to the early races for a good guide on any track bias.
Ascot Race 8 Railway Stakes 1600m (Group 1 3YO and Up, Handicap)
The Map
Buster Bash (12) and Let's Galahvant (6) look the two most likely to speed out and challenge each other for the lead.
Yonkers (11), Trix Of The Trade (8) and Ironclad (7) should all have the opportunity to tuck in for cover just in behind.
Alaskan God (14) has decisions to make and now fitter second up will likely be ridden a touch closer than last time.
Treasured Star (20) and Devoted (16) are both drawn out and will be forced to go back and take cover, any fireworks up front and these two should be well suited.
This race is likely to be run at a moderate to strong tempo.
The Favourite
Alaskan God ($4.50) won 5 straight to round out last preparation and returned well first up, running 6 of 16 in the Asian Beau where no real intent was shown early.
He got home hard last time out in what was a genuine flashing light run from well back in the field.
The timing looks perfect and he should be very well suited by the step up to 1600m after the "pipe opener" over 1400m first up.
Best Racing Tips
I'm with Trix Of The Trade who gets in here with no weight (53kg) and only just missed (0.5 lengths) last time out in the Asian Beau where finished 3 of 16.
He had no luck last start when wide in a complete forgive-and-forget run.
Given any luck here he should atone.
Alaskan God was simply breath-taking first-up without winning, and clearly looks the one who will be ideally suited stepping up to 1600m.
The gun rider is booked and trust him to find cover from the draw (gate 14) before presenting in the right part of the track to get home hard again.
Yonkers is all quality and from the Waller yard who would not be sending him on the long trip unless they believe he is a genuine hope.
In this regard, the current price of $17 looks far too big!
Waller in the West could surprise them all.
Treasured Star is for the all-conquering and high-profile owner Bob Peters, who has won a few of these and knows a thing or two about feature racing in Perth.
She has drawn wide, however that should be no issue as her typical pattern would be to race back in the field in any case. Watch for her late over the top.
