Saturday’s racing at Randwick produced a couple of particularly strong form races, with the clock highlighting two runners whose performances were better than their finishing positions may suggest.

Mick Gannon has identified Call Me Gorgeous and Matusalem as the two horses to follow out of the meeting.

Race 6 – Call Me Gorgeous

Call Me Gorgeous put together three of the strongest individual sectional splits on the card across three consecutive furlongs, producing an overall figure of -3.7 lengths against class benchmark.

That was the third-best time performance of the entire meeting, despite her finishing fourth.

Importantly, this was comfortably the strongest form race on the card, adding further merit to the performance.

Her figures suggest she ran considerably better than the finishing position indicates, and 1100m looks an ideal trip moving forward.

She goes straight into the black book.

Race 7 – Matusalem

Matusalem chased home Eliyass in a genuinely run 1800m contest that rated as one of the two standout form races of the meeting.

There was plenty to like about the performance, particularly given it was only his second-up run of the preparation. There should be further improvement to come off an already strong figure.

If he can draw a favourable gate next start, expect him to be very hard to beat third-up.

The Takeaway

The clock can often uncover performances that the results alone don't show, and that was the case with these two at Randwick.

Call Me Gorgeous produced elite sectionals in a strong race, while Matusalem looks ready to peak third-up.

Both are worth following closely next start.
