The highly anticipated rematch between Via Sistina and Fangirl headlines this weekend’s mile showdown at Randwick, with several high-class stayers resuming and the dominant Epsom Handicap winner potentially peaking second-up.

While three key runners are resuming with much bigger targets later in the autumn, the remaining six all come through the Apollo Stakes, making this a true test of tactics and timing.

G1 Verry Eleegant Stakes 2025 Tips and Best Bets

Track Conditions & Rail Position

With dry conditions leading up to raceday, expect the track to be a Good 4 or even slightly firmer.

The rail moves back to the True position, which should favour on-pace runners early before gradually levelling out later in the program.

 

Speed Map & Race Shape

Via Sistina has drawn barrier 8, so she’ll likely be ridden quietly, settling worse than midfield but crucially off the fence.

The key tactical move could come from stablemate Fangirl (5), drawn three spots inside her, with McEvoy potentially looking to track her from the jump.

At the back of the field, Ceowulf, Arapaho, and Zarakem will all drift further back, while Lindermann takes up his usual front-running role.

Land Legend, first-up, is expected to settle behind him, with Golden Path tracking over next.

Fangirl and Via Sistina should both be positioned just behind the main speed, waiting for the right moment to strike.

The Favourite: Via Sistina

This small, tactical field isn’t an ideal scenario for Via Sistina, but her second-up form at the mile is outstanding.

With several stayers resuming, the pace is likely to be only moderate, meaning she may need to start rolling early—possibly from the 650m mark.

If she gets clear air in the straight, her class should shine through and she’s every chance to turn the tables on Fangirl.

 

 

 

Neil’s Best Bet & Dangers

The Apollo quinella looks like the obvious play again, but this time the exacta is the value bet, with Via Sistina to finish ahead of Fangirl.

Fangirl is the clear main threat, but historically she can be slightly flat second-up.

That said, her electrifying acceleration over the mile makes her an undeniable winning chance.

Lindermann has strong second-up form and should give a big sight from the front, while exciting import Zarakem has trialled impressively,
