Mick Gannon – Randwick Saturday Best Bets 11/7/26

Race 4 – #1 Benevac

Benevac has been desperately unlucky not to win at either of his past two starts and looks ready to make amends.

Last start he was forced to race against a significant rail bias yet still fought on strongly to be beaten only a narrow margin, confirming he's in terrific form.

He now drops in weight thanks to the valuable claim of the in-form Siena Grima and has drawn perfectly to enjoy a soft run, settling in the first four without doing any extra work.

His first-up placing on a Heavy 9 track suggests the conditions will hold no fears, and with everything falling into place, Gannon believes he's clearly the horse to beat.

Race 9 – #2 Lugh

Lugh profiles as another runner ready to produce a peak performance second-up.

He boasts an outstanding second-up record and, despite rising slightly in class, effectively carries only 1kg more after Grima's claim thanks to a significant drop in grade.

The race lacks genuine early speed, giving him every opportunity to either find the lead or settle outside it without spending too much energy.

Already proven over a mile, the step back to 1400 metres is a positive, and if he controls the race from the front end, Gannon expects him to maintain his unbeaten second-up record.
