David Gately heads to Rosehill expecting significantly firmer conditions than recent Sydney meetings, with a Good track forecast and the rail moved out to 3m.

While runners were shifting away from the inside at the previous meeting on wet ground, the improved surface should create a much fairer playing field and place greater emphasis on race shape and form.

Race 5 – #6 Surf's Up

Surf's Up looks ideally placed to break through.

His second-up effort was full of merit when narrowly beaten despite racing in a contest that wasn't run to suit his pattern.

Last start he was forced to cover additional ground at Randwick before still producing an excellent performance stepping up to 1400m.

The run suggested he has returned in terrific order and is ready to peak.

With a more suitable setup here and race fitness now on his side, Gately expects him to take plenty of beating.

 

Best Each-Way Bet

Race 4 – #4 King Pedro

King Pedro profiles as one of the better each-way plays of the day.

His fresh run was strong through the line in a race that has already proven a solid form reference and he now meets key rival Nobler significantly better at the weights.

Last start he worked into the race earlier than ideal in an event that suited runners finishing off from the back, yet still managed to perform admirably.

The third-up profile is another major positive.

Last preparation he exploded third-up to win by more than eight lengths and if he can reproduce anything close to that level, he looks over the odds at his current quote.

Gately believes he represents excellent value in what shapes as a very competitive race.
