David Gately heads to Flemington expecting another testing winter meeting, with cold conditions and further rain likely to leave the track firmly in the Heavy range.
The rail moves out to 11m and recent meetings have shown runners wanting to get away from the inside lanes, particularly in the straight races where the widest ground proved the place to be.
Proven wet trackers and horses capable of sustaining long runs look set to hold a significant advantage.
Track Conditions
• Expected Surface: Heavy
• Rail Position: +11m

David Gately – Flemington Best Bets 20/6/26
Bet Of The Day
Race 2 – #1 Decalogue
Decalogue looks ideally placed to continue his strong preparation.
He was dominant winning at Newcastle before stepping sharply in grade at Randwick where he was forced to make a long sustained run from the 1000m and still proved too strong for his rivals.
The effort confirmed his toughness and his ability to absorb pressure throughout a race.
Earlier this year he also competed well in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes, suggesting he has the class to measure up in stronger company.
The wet ground looks suitable and he profiles as the horse they all have to beat.
Best Value Bet
Race 6 – #4 It's A Knockout
It's A Knockout appeals as one of the better value runners on the program.
Her recent trial suggested she had returned in excellent order and she backed that up with a strong first-up performance against the males.
The way she attacked the line late was particularly encouraging and the return to racing against her own sex looks a significant positive.
She also has a strong second-up profile, having measured up against quality galloper Cool Jakey at the same stage of a previous preparation.
With conditions to suit and a favourable map, Gately believes the early double-figure quote is worth serious consideration.
