Media experts get their eye in

The month of August always feels like a practice run before the main event that is the Spring Carnival.

Not only do the big name horses start to make a return to the track, but the media experts begin sharpening up their eye in preparation for the big campaign.

August saw a high profile media expert buck the trend and break into the top three for highest cash profit.

The experts excelled in the highest POT category as well.

Read on to find out who they were, as well as which pro punters put their name up in lights in August.

Highest Cash Profit

The biggest cash profit of the month was secured by veteran Victorian punter Fordcat17.

He tipped a whopping 86 winners at an incredible average win price of $11.33.

Boosting this average price was a winner Fordcat17 snuck in on the last day of the month, in the last race on the card.

We're talking of Mad Brad, who saluted in Belmont at the whopping odds of $70.30.

Fordcat17's big roughie

Across August, Fordcat17 found no less than $12,720 in cash profit from $100 win bets.

While this was a cracking month for the veteran tipster, he will be aiming for an ever better one in September.

Not only will he be looking for more profits, but he'll be hoping his beloved Geelong Cats can go all the way in the AFL finals.

The second-highest cash profit was picked up by pro punter VacantLot.

This pro hails from sandy Meriumbula on the NSW far South Coast.

Maybe it's the sea breeze that's doing him good, because he tipped up a storm in August.

With 11 winners at an average price of $10.76, VacantLot secured $8,040 in profit.

That'll get you a few rounds of beer at the Merimbula RSL.

It was a media expert who picked up the bronze medal for most cash profit.

This stellar performance came from Racing.com's Ben Asgari

The Persian Prince steered his followers into 26 winning tips at a solid average price of $4.12.

However the main contributor behind this profit was his cracking strike rate.

For much of August it was hovering around the 50% mark.

There's nothing punters love more than consistency.

You can bet that Asgari's September tips will be hot property.

Highest POT

Improving on his silver medal in the cash profit category, VacantLot bagged the gold for August's highest POT.

Incredibly, his 212% POT is more than triple that of the next best in the category.

This really hammers home what a great month this New South Welshman had.

To find 11 winners at an average price in excess of $10 from just 38 tips is a phenomenal effort.

But now onto the media experts, because it was Terry Clifton who secured the silver with a 64% POT.

This racing journo and form analyst has almost 30 years experience working in the racing industry.

All of this experience paid off in August, after Clifton found 15 winners from just 37 total tips.

This is a cracking effort considering that the average price of these winners was in excess of the $4 mark.

Punters will also be encouraged by just how well Clifton has been seeing them of late.

He's found a profit in 8 of his previous 9 tipping days.

What an effort.

Rounding out the podium for a second time is Ben Asgari.

As mentioned above, Asgari's strike rate was outstanding and a big reason behind not just his profit, but his 60% POT.

But it was the meeting at Caulfield on the 17th of August that really set up Asgari's month.

On that day, he tipped 7 of the 9 winners on the card, including all of the winners in the last 6 races.

This form bodes well for the Spring Carnival.

A special mention also goes to the most recent addition to theGreatTipOff.com stable, Mark Porcheddu

In his debut month, the Victorian analyst reeled in 50% POT from 11 tips. Not bad going and one to keep an eye on as the Melbourne carinval draws closer.

Best Media Experts by POT

There was a raft of media experts who tipped with precision in August.

And with the Spring Carnival upon us, plenty of punters will be scrambling to know which experts are in-form.

Outside of the top two highflyers already mentioned, RSN broadcaster and race caller Terry Bailey was amongst the top three media experts after finishing with an impressive 59% POT.

Paul Jordan flew the flag for Telegraph Racing, steering home 17 winners for 49%. He was followed by Peter Lyne from the Winning Post, who notched up 48% POT.

And Racenet duo Heath Pope and Clint Payne rounded out the top positions, with the latter jagging $27 pop Mrs Madrid last Saturday at Rosehill.
