Two key Melbourne raiders face a stiff test at Randwick on Saturday.

They will each attract plenty of interest from the mug punter, who is often blinded by a last start winner.

Randwick Race 5 #1 Fanciful Toff $2.40

Has come up far too short in the 2400m staying event of the day at Royal Randwick.

He won well last start here over the same distance, however this field appears much deeper and he's been asked to carry more weight (60.5kg).

Going back to the Bendigo win two starts back, he beat Battlecamp by 0.75 lengths which is far from “A grade” form and could easily be bettered by his opposition here. 

They will likely be forced to work forward from an outside gate (barrier 11) and risk an early burn to find the desired travelling position.

Even with the rider's claim (2kg), I simply cannot get this runner as short as the early market has him. Expect a drift out beyond $3.00. Lay.  

 

Randwick Race 6 #2 Dr Drill $2.45

Comes to Sydney to face the big boys in this and will have his work cut out against some seasoned middle distance campaigners.

The speed map looks ugly for a horse that loves to lead and dictate. He will be forced to work from gate 9 and is likely to be posted wide throughout.

The Flemington runs have been good, in particular the last start effort where he dominated from out in front. That performance will have the mug punters locked on here.

The pro punters will likely risk this runner late in betting and focus in on both Zourkhan and White Boots. 

The current $2.45 looks pure poison and you can expect the price to be $3.00+ with most bookies at the jump.
