We head back to Randwick for one of the biggest weekends of the year, The Championships Day 1!
With races such as The Doncaster Mile and TJ Smith, it is easy to see why punters are so excited.
The rail is in the true position for the entirety of the course and the track is a very heavy 10.
The last time they raced with this set up, runners off the rail towards the centre of the track had the best luck.
Randwick Tip from Luke Hovhanesian
Randwick Race 2 #3 Straight Arron $2.50
I was on this 3YO gelding at his first run back from a spell.
He was caught in an impossible position, stuck on the rail in last. The winner of that race Loch Eagle got all the favours and was able to put a space on the field before the bend.
Straight Arron took good ground off him late, but the margin was too far to bridge.
He now steps up to 1600m in Saturday grade and looks primed to strike.
He gets a favourable wide draw, allowing him to avoid all trouble in the run.
There are no doubts he will drift back in the field once more, but this will allow him to watch the race unfold.
Jmac sticks in a tick of confidence and once they reach the bend, he can place this talent gelding into the race.
Historically at this set up the middle lanes are the best place to be and he will be steaming down the centre of the track.
I see him as a very progressive horse so this can be a first step, on path to bigger group races in his future.
Randwick Tip from Michael Gannon
Randwick Race 7 #8 Character $9.00
Character was given a perfect Derby lead up in the Tulloch.
He was forced to do plenty of work when chasing down tear away leader Zoumon and was strongest of the on-pace runners late.
He was entitled to tire late, however he was eased down slightly.
He should take significant benefit from that run and he's in a winning mood.
His 3rd in the Group 2 Phar Lap over 1500m on a Heavy 8 indicated he doesn't mind the rain affected going and by the looks of his racing style, he'll handle the bottomless track.
Looks a great bet at the price.
Randwick Tip from Dean Watling
Randwick Race 6 #1 Fireburn $2.00
She was dynamic winning the Golden Slipper with a treacherous run to say the least.
Once she balanced up in the straight she unleashed her powerful turn of foot on the rain affected track.
Her strength to the line was noticeable to the eye and the clock backed it up.
Her last 200m was 3.7 lengths faster then any other horse in the race. This gives me complete confidence she will eat up the 1400m this weekend.
Randwick is her perfect track where she will get every chance to run on, and there is enough speed up front for her to finish over the top.
Back up Slipper horses in the Sires have a good record and she can add to this.
Looks the bet of he card.
