6/4/19 Horse racing tips: Chairman's Quality 2019

Melbourne raiders to strike
AAPDistance | 2600m |
Grade | Group 2 |
Track Rating | Soft 7 |
Prizemoney | $294,000 |
Class | 3YO & Up - Handicap |
2018 winner | Sir Charles Road ($7.10) |
Considered a stepping stone to next week's Sydney Cup, the 2019 Chairman’s Quality is a wide-open affair.
Second-favourite Shraaoh failed to impress as a well backed commodity last start, but will no doubt improve here on a drying surface.
Following last year's victory, Sir Charles Road returns to the scene of the crime to defend his title. The Kiwi raider hasn't won since that run and has opened $18 in early markets.
Supernova has been listed early favourite at $3.80. This price looks under-the-odds considering he's coming out of a weak BM78 and favourite punters should tread carefully.
Lloyd Williams is no stranger to success with stayers and enters The Taj Mahal here, with jockey James McDonald onboard a big plus.
Randwick Track Traits
The Randwick track is currently rated a Soft 5, with the rail in the true position.
If the track stays in the Soft range, expect jockeys to search for better ground off the rail in the home straight.
Racing Market Movers
Early markets have been steady since opening on Wednesday. The only movement of note has been for Sir Charles Road, who has firmed into $14 from $19.
Key Runners
#1 Muntahaa $21
Won the Ebor two preparations ago and followed that up with a ninth in the Melbourne Cup.
His first-up effort in the Australian Cup was well below par, after he failed to run-on.
There is no doubt he can improve off that and if he produces his best here, he'll go very close.
#2 The Taj Mahal $19
Fought on well to finish 3.45 lengths off Harlem in the Australian Cup two starts ago.
The heavy track was not to his liking last start, with a return to a drier surface here a huge plus.
He's fourth-up, will be rock-hard-fit and will take plenty of catching out in front.
The booking of J-Mac suggests that connections are very confident of his chances. Huge show!
#5 Sir Charles Road $19 > $14
Last year's winner, who has done little to impress since.
Would need to grow another leg to go close. No thanks!
#11 Gallic Chieftain $13
He's won a weak handicap race, a Stony Creek Cup and a Warrnambool Cup in his last two preparations and has somehow gone up at $13.
The distance is a query and the inside draw won't help his causes.
A dead-set plodder who will do well to fill the superfecta.
#12 One Foot In Heaven $15
Did a good job in the Group Three Manion Cup last start, after going back from the wide barrier.
It's been 902-days since his last win, which suggests he's no longer a genuine race horse.
Loves the cut out of the track and with a drying surface, he won't get any favours there. Looks tested.
#14 Shraaoh $5.50
Ran well below market expectations last start, but can improve significantly back on firmer ground.
The two runners that beat him home last start, Midterm and Big Duke, would start first and second favourite in this field and are both proven stayers.
The 2600m distance at his fourth run this prep suits.
Carrying only 53kg from barrier two, look for Kerrin McEvoy to ride positively and take a forward position in the run.
He'll be fighting out the finish!
#15 Semari $12
Has won three on-the-trot, including the Group Three Epona Stakes at her last start.
She meets far superior gallopers here however, and is stepping out beyond 2040m for the first time.
Happy to risk.
#19 Supernova $3.80
Has plenty of upside, but will need to improve sharply coming out of a BM78.
His two UK wins were over 2240m and then 2400m, which suggests he'll handle the sharp rise in distance.
His best chance will be if Brenton Avdulla can hold a forward position from the nice draw in barrier six.
Looks a star on the rise and with the light-weight, he's a genuine chance.
The $3.80 looks far too short however.
