We return to wet Randwick with the Winter season well and truly in full swing.
The rail is true for the entire circuit.
The surface will be in the Heavy category, however we are expecting some sunny weather prior to the weekend.
Keep an eye out for any fast lanes appearing from the wet surface.
Randwick Tip from Dean Watling
Randwick Race 10 #7 American President $3.30
The 3YO gelding has turned into a consistent horse this preparation putting together three wins and a solid 2nd last start at Scone.
He was beaten last start by the inform Athelric with a good gap to 3rd there.
That’s a solid form line.
We know he handles these wet tracks, winning well two starts back at Randwick, after getting a peach of a ride by Tommy Berry.
He stays at 1100m and draws a lovely gate for his racing pattern.
There looks to be good speed on here, he can settle comfortably midfield off the rails and get to the best part of the track.
He brings superior figures to his rivals here and still looks like he still has upside.
Randwick Tip from Michael Gannon
Rosehill Race 2 #3 Backrower $4.00
This 2YO colt impressed me on debut at Newcastle.
He was still green when travelling in the run, however once he straightened, showed a strong turn of foot to pull away from his rivals.
The conditions on that day were similar to what he will likely face this weekend.
The step up to 1400m will suit, allowing him to settle better in the run.
He maps to sit behind midfield and peel to the best going down the centre of the track.
Can use this as a stepping stone to bigger races.
Randwick Tip from Luke Hovhanesian
Randwick Race 8 #1 Kirwin's Lane $7.00
This 5YO gelding enters this contest 4th up against a moderate field.
He has been a mighty consistent performer over his career so far and will be looking to add another win in this Handicap race.
There is a lot of speed in this event and importantly, the pressure is expected to come from both the inside and outside draws.
This will ensure a strong tempo is run for the entire race. Kirwin's Lane is a strong run-on type and this favours him.
Apprentice jockey Reece Jones knocks off 2kg and brings him down to only 58kg.
If he can find a position midfield with cover, he is the one I want to be on turning for home.
The $7 in early markets looks like a great price.
