NSW racing returns to Rosehill for Festival Stakes Day on Saturday, with a solid 10 race card scheduled.

The track is currently rated a Soft 7, with the rail situated in the true position.

With 10-40mm of rain predicted in the lead up to race day, there is little doubt we'll be racing on a rain affected track.

At this track set-up, punters should expect to see the track play fair.

Rosehill Race 7 #1 Southern Lad $7.00

This bloke produced a big win when first-up on Melbourne Cup Day at Randwick.

He was returning from a 15 week freshen that, after beating Phobeter at Grafton who's since come to town and won the Missile Stakes.

At first-up run, he sat off the speed and got shuffled back awkwardly on the turn, but was able to weave a passage in the straight and unleash his turn of foot to prove too good. In the process, he recorded a solid last 600m figure of -9.6 off a very slow tempo.

This looks a much better set up on Saturday, with stack of speed lining up which will only aid his chances.

The rain affected track will also suit his pattern, as they'll likely edge off the fence and give backmarkers a chance to run on.

The John O’Shea camp is flying at the minute and this galloper can make it two on-the-trot.

Rosehill Race 4 Tip #7 Grove Ferry $4.00

I love the set up Grove Ferry has received in the lead up to this ATC Cup.

His last start effort over the 1600m at Kembla Grange only a week ago was full of merit.

Having to carry 61kg on a degrading track, this 5YO gelding showed tremendous will to run on and finish 6th alongside favourite Lackeen.

He enters this event fourth-up and rises to the 2000m ready to peak.

He drops 8kg from that outing and Tim Clark retains the ride.

Grove Ferry showed great ability to get through wet ground over in the UK and will face similar conditions here this weekend.

With the low weight, expect Clark to push  forward to hold a more prominent position in the small field.

This should ensure a slow tempo up front and there is no one better than rating horses out in front that Clark.

Look for him to make his move prior to the bend, putting a gap on his rivals.

Co-Trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott both have huge opinions of this gelding and will be he can bring up his first Australian win.

Rosehill Race 5 #11 Bacchanalia $4.40

This son of Exceed And Excel returns to Sydney after a solid effort down the Flemington straight, when running 4th to the speedy Profiteer.

He's 1 from 1 second-up, with that win coming on a Heavy 8 at Canterbury. It's worth noting that was a career peak run..

The data suggests he'll handle the rain affected going as well as any of his rivals and with only 52kg on his back, he can be ridden where he lands.

The wide draw is a negative, but it ensures we get some sort of price. Ticks plenty of boxes and at $4.40 is a good bet.
