Racing returns to Cessnock on Tuesday for the first time since October 2019, and we are met with a nice eight-race card.

The track is currently rated a Soft 6 and with a slight chance of showers forecast, you can expect it to remain rain affected.

The rail is in the True position and history shows that at Cessnock, being in the leading group on the bend is an advantage.

From the stewards

The Jason Deamer trained mare, A Fortunate Lass, was forced to do a stack of work coming off a 516-day lay off and is sure to improve today.

She jumped well in that hit-out, but with speed coming from the inside and outside she was forced to race wide. She was then squeezed out in the straight and not urged to the line.

Christian Reith has been engaged to ride her in Race 7 and from the nice draw, she can make huge improvement at the $23.

Cessnock Race 3 Tip #1 Daltoro $2.40

This Toronado gelding has found a very winnable race here.

He raced erratically on debut, throwing his head around and running with his head high throughout the run.

Once Samantha Clenton got stuck into him in the straight, you could see the talent that this galloper possesses. However, the energy he burnt earlier in the race cost him in the latter stages as he finished in third.

He steps back to the 900m for this assignment and returns to a much easier maiden race, where he can win with authority providing he behaves himself.

The addition of Andrew Gibbons is a plus and with the long shute from the 900m starting point, he should be able to get into a nice spot.

Look for Gibbons to put him in the first few pairs, before peeling off heels at the bend and putting them to the sword.
