Best bets for Port Macquarie

We're off to the NSW mid-north coast on Monday, with a strong seven-race card set to play out at Port Macquarie racecourse.

The track is currently rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 4m for the entire circuit.

With fine weather forecast, punters should expect a drying surface and fair racing across the day.

Port Macquarie Race 2 Tip #4 Chelsea Magic $6.00

This filly by Polarmore has a stack of early toe and was only narrowly beaten last start on a Heavy 10 over 1000m.

She jumps from a wide barrier once again today and will no doubt adopt the same tactics.

The drier track will suit her racing pattern and with the addition senior jockey Luke Rolls, expect her to make every post a winner.

There is not much depth to this race and I think this girl can break their hearts out in front.

Port Macquarie Race 3 Tip #6 Nevada Smoke $5.60

This looks a genuine race in two between short priced favourite Sancta and Nevada Smoke.

Sancta debuted over 1200m at Gosford, where she showed great early toe. However, he compounded late to finish third.

He then went to Mudgee and appeared to be a little flat over the 1100m. Assessing him off that run, I can't have him a $1.70 favourite for this clash.

The second favourite and my top selection, Nevada Smoke, debuted at Taree on a Heavy 10 and finished an admirable third.

He jumped from the wide gate on that occasion and was forced to do plenty of work, before sitting outside the leader.

From barrier 2 today, he can slide forward and sit handy with the option to lead. Either way, he won't be working hard in the run.

He'll strip much fitter off his debut run and will take natural improvement into his second career start.

In what looks a race in two, I'm happy to side with the value runner.
