Trainers to Follow
New Zealand trainer Andrew Foresman has only taken 2 runners out to Melbourne’s South-East at Sandown Racecourse on the Lakeside track and has had a winner from those 2 and has a whopping 446% POT as a result.
He has 3 runners on this program with ‘She’s Licketysplit’ going around in race 2 at $7.00, ‘Mr Maestro’ in race 5 at $5.00 and ‘Aegon’ in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes in race 8 paying $19.00.
Julius Sandhu has found the Sandown Lakeside track a happy hunting ground with a 25.7% winning strike rate and a 150.7% POT.
He has just one runner on the program with 3yo ‘Lofty Strike’ looking to claim Group 1 glory in race 9 on the program, the Oakleigh Plate. The Colt has been given a $10.00 quote to achieve that.
There is an abundance of trainers at this meeting in very good form that are well worth following but the trainers who top the standings for winners in their last 100 runners are James Cummings, Jerome Hunter, Steven O'Dea and Matthew Hoysted with 23 winners.
Cummings has last start winner ‘Spacewalk’ in race 4 ($3.30), ‘Pericles’ in race 5 ($3.20), his three Golden Slipper hopefuls in ‘Barber’ ($5.50), ‘Zulfiqar’ ($26.00), ‘Exploring’ ($12.00) and also has ‘Zapateo’ in race 9 ($16.00).
Hunter has not only been a good trainer to follow recently but he has been a profitable trainer throughout his career to date.
He has two horses running on the program, both well in the market, with Group 1 winner ‘Barb Raider’ resuming in race 3 ($4.80) and ‘Rich Fortune’ in race 4 ($5.00) after an incredible victory here on the Hillside track last start.
Queensland trainers O'Dea & Hoysted have two runners on the program, both of which are in the same race (race 9), with ‘Shooting For Gold’ ($41.00) and ‘Uncommon James’ ($10.00).
Jockeys to Follow
Unsurprisingly, top jockey Blake Shinn tops the standings for winning strike rate at Sandown Lakeside at 19.1% .
Shinn has an excellent book of rides for the day and has a ride in every race on the program bar the first.
He only has one ride on the program in double figures (‘The Astrologist at $41.00 in race 9). The pick of his rides for the day looking to be ‘Queen Of The Ball’ in race 4 ($4.00), ‘Mr Maestro’ in race 5 ($5.00), ‘Emissary’ in race 6 ($4.60) & ‘Alligator Blood’ in race 8 ($3.60).
Mark Zahra also has a solid winning strike rate at Sandown Lakeside going at 17%.
Zahra shockingly has just four rides on the program with the pick of them coming in race 3 with ‘Turaath’ ($4.20) & race 6 with 2022 Melbourne Cup winner ‘Gold Trip’ ($3.00).
Ethan Brown remains comfortably the most in-form jockey right now with 29 winners from his last 100 rides and he also strikes at just under 15% at Sandown Lakeside.
Brown has a ride in every race on the program except race 3 and many of which are paying a very healthy price.
The pick of his rides for the day in my mind come in the form of ‘Right You Are’ in race 1 ($1.80), ‘Veecee’ in race 7 ($19.00) & ‘My Oberon’ in race 8 ($10.00).
Jamie Kah has also been in stellar form with 24 winners from her last 100 rides and as is the case with most meetings, particularly metro meetings, she has an outstanding book of rides for the day to likely ensure she keeps that solid record going.
