It is Champions Day in Hong Kong, with a huge 10 race card ahead, including three Group 1 races.
The Japanese raiders are strong today. Danon Smash faces off against top local sprinters in the Chairman’s Sprint Prize, while 4 Japanese horses including last years triple Tiara winner Daring Tact, will take on horse of the year Exultant in the QEII Cup.
Alexis Badel, Chad Schofield and Ruan Maia will return from suspension for this meeting, both with some good mounts.
Meanwhile, leading jockey Joao Moreira has a full book of rides, including unbeaten Fantastic Way, Gallant Express and Courier Wonder.
Horse Racing Tips from Charene Woo
Sha Tin R1 Tip #10 Mission Start $4.20
This son from Smart Missile suffered a setback in the summer, and has only returned to the track as recently as February.
He ran a decent second in March over the Happy Valley 1200m, showing he's returned in nice order.
Last time out over 1400m at Sha Tin he accelerated well in the straight to capture fourth place.
Trainer Frankie Lor decided to put the blinkers on him for the first time in a recent barrier trial.
They appeared to do the trick and the horse is now flying from the gates.
With Joao Moreira partnering him again, I expect Mission Start to settle better than midfield and I have him as the one to beat.
Sha Tin R4 Tip #2 Beauty Fit $6.50
Beauty Fit, who was named Barocha in Australia, showed nice potential before coming to Hong Kong.
However, in Hong Kong his barrier manners have proven costly.
Trainer John Size has since decided to put the horse through some intensive barrier jump outs, so he can learn to jump properly.
He looks to have sharpened from the gates and the step up to the mile is ideal. He looks a solid winning chance at good odds.
