After a number of months, racing makes its much-anticipated return to Caulfield with a nine-race program and a handy card for a winter meeting.
The feature of the program comes in race 8 with an Open Handicap that pits Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained ‘Normandy Bridge’ ($2.60) ahead of ‘Deepstrike’.
Normandy Bridge is out for revenge after being knocked off as a red-hot favourite last time out.
The track is currently rated as a Soft 7 and with showers continuing to fall on Friday, expecting it will stay in that range.
The running rail for the meeting will be in the True position.
This will see a slight advantage being on-pace and a slight disadvantage being at the rear of the field.
Tough betting program with only 3 favourites being under $3.50 but there looks a couple of key chances to have a wager on!
Caulfield Race 7 #3 Winning Verse $4.00
This NSW runner comes into this off the back of a solid win at Rosehill last start in a BM78.
She steps up in grade here to a BM84 but certainly has the ability to make the slight jump and win again.
The last time this 4YO mare raced here at Caulfield, she bolted in by 3.5 lengths in a similar race to what she faces here.
She lands Blake Shinn aboard for the ride, who has the top winning strike rate at the track amongst jockeys at Caulfield at 14.9%.
He should land her in a good spot on-pace either outside the lead or one-back with cover.
As for her Trainer, Mark Connors has a strong record at Caulfield with a 14.3% winning strike rate at a 127.8% POT.
Comes into this at peak fitness fourth-up and with the right run should prove tough to run down.
Caulfield Race 3 #1 Field Of Praise $9.50
This 3YO Deep Field filly is resuming here from a spell.
Prior to her break, she had got her career off to a handy start with two wins and a placing from five career runs.
She closed off very well on the outside to get up and score in a recent Flemington jump out to suggest she is in good shape leading into this first-up run.
She draws well in barrier 3 to land up on-pace and either take up the lead or sit in behind the pace.
Trainers Ben & JD Hayes are in great recent form (21 winners from their last 100 runners) and jockey Daniel Stackhouse has also been in top form (17 winners from his last 100 rides including 5 from his last 18).
Goes well fresh (2:1-1-0) and has won on a Heavy 9 before so will not mind the wet track whatsoever and with a comfortable run in the race, will be a big challenger in a race with little depth here.
