Doomben Race 9 Tip #6 Ziemba $5.50

This is round 3 of the trilogy between Ziemba and Roman Aureus.

At their only two starts this campaign, Roman Aureus and Ziemba have battled it out gamely for minor money.

With both of them third-up here, this shapes as a really intriguing battle.

Looking back at their form-lines and Roman Aureus has beaten the Robert Heathcote trained gelding by a nose into second both times, with Ziemba clawing back ground late.

For this clash, Heathcote has called in gun hoop Ryan Maloney to settle the score.

Maloney will be able to find a great spot from gate 2 just off the speed, while his main competition has to contend with barrier 14.

Wide barriers at Doomben undo even the most senior jockeys, therefore claiming apprentice Kyle Wilson-Taylor will need the ride of his life to find a good position in the run.

Ziemba strips fitter for this assignment and judging off his runs this campaign, he looks ready to explode. Look for Maloney to work him into the race on straightening and from there he will be able to reel in his rivals from the furlong and finish powerfully over the top.

Caulfield Race 1 Tip #7 Reflect The Stars $5.50

Danny O’ Brien has set this useful staying mare for this race.

Her two runs back from a spell this campaign have been sound.

Last start, she had no luck over 2000m at Caulfield finishing seventh behind the front runner Falls, after being trapped wide throughout.

She worked forward early in the race and was entitled to drop-out, but fought on well for seventh.

Last campaign she was competitive against the likes of Miyake and Tralee Rose. Furthermore, if we assess on last year's form she was just beaten by Grand Promenade at this track and distance.

Craig Williams rides on Saturday and he knows her well after partnering with her for multiple placings.

She handles the wet and looks well weighted with 56kg.

Rosehill Race 7 Tip #7 Sambro $23.00

I think this year's edition of the Winter Challenge at Rosehill holds enormous value through one of the Chris Waller outsiders.

Sambro enters this contest third-up after two good runs so far this campaign which were under the radar.

Last run he finished 7th behind the flying Bandersnatch on a chopped up track, where nothing made ground.

On the inferior ground and with a slow tempo, he still managed to box on well to finish only 4 lengths behind the winner.

Since then, Waller has sent him back to the trials where he closed off very strongly under a hold and continued to run on through the line past the finishing post.

His third-up record reads well, with a win and 3 placings from 6 career starts.

If we go back to last year's edition of this race, there was a similar set up on soft ground. He charged to the line, finishing second behind now All Star Mile winner Mugatoo.

The current price represents great value in a field that doesn't have an abundance of star power.

Doomben Race 8 Tip #9 Purroni $6.00

I thought Purroni would be pushing for favouritism when markets opened.

She was excellent in defeat at her fresh run at the start of the prep, when motoring home over the 1200m behind Starvirgo who cut the corner.

She didn't measure up the next start in Listed grade, after being shuffled back from barrier 15 and caught wide. Despite the tough run, she didn't disgrace and it was a performance which warranted plenty of merit.

Her last start at Ipswich has brought about some strong form-lines, with At Witz End and Toujours L'Amour recently winning.

In that clash, Purroni worked to sit outside the lead from barrier 10 and was able to kick clear on the turn. However, At Witz End, had cover throughout and swooped home to score in the last few strides.

Although this galloper hasn't tasted victory in 40 weeks, she looks perfectly placed for this assignment.

She has drawn well in barrier 2 for this 1350m clash, with many of the fancied runners drawing wide.

Look for her to sit on the rail, likely 2-3 pairs back. From there, senior jock Byrne will need to show all his experience to get her in a position to explode with a blistering turn of foot.

Belmont Race 5 Tip #4 Little Flirt $4.00

Little Flirt is an absolute mud lark and would be loving this run of wet weather we are currently having in WA.

She has won her last two starts by a combined 6 lengths, pulling away in very impressive performances.

The jury is out on her rivals' form and their ability to handle wet tracks.

The track will be in the soft range after a couple days of sun, which is perfect for this 5YO mare.

Butterlea Lad, Peppijack and Recharger should be setting a good tempo in this race.

Little Flirt is drawn midfield, but will settle towards the rear. This set up is perfect, as some of her main rivals are drawn outside her so she will be able to get on the back of them and get a good cart into the race.

Little Flirt has formed a great partnership with Kyra Yuill and has a great opportunity to notch up her first Saturday metro win adding to her picket fence form-line.
