Cox Plate Day Crunches
AAPTagged: Horse Racing Tips
Last week we found both Extreme Flight ($3.40) and Buffalo River ($3.10) at Caulfield, at prices which continued to tumble by the time they jumped.
We're keen to continue the good form this week, on a massive Cox Plate Day card.
The Troy Corstens yard are a huge watch at Moonee Valley, with 2 key movers chances which look set to get punters off to a flyers.
Meanwhile at Randwick, a smart Waller 3YO could announce himself as something very special in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes.
Moonee Valley Tips
Idris
There has been a big spruik from the Troy Corstens yard all week for this 2YO, and they are openly declaring he is very smart.
Like many stables, Damien Oliver gets the call up to ride when they are ready to win and that looks to be the case here.
He must be working the house down at home and given the confidence, should be in the finish.
New York Baby
Another Troy and Leon Corstens runner who the camp are very keen on.
At her debut, she simply brained them. Then she was unsuited last start after drawing wide in a hot field, yet still managed to place 2 of 12.
She appears very genuine and I expect Troy to go bang, bang here with the first two winners for our market movers followers.
Pondus
Team Williams import who ran well at Flemington last start (5 of 12) behind the smart Grand Promenade and Geelong Cup winner Tralee Rose.
That form looks strong and the yard often have them peaking second and third up.
If more money arrives inside the last few minutes of betting, expect him to be in the finish.
Verry Elleegant
This year’s Cox Plate is a hot race, however this classy mare is all quality and recently coined a champion.
If they roll forward and find clean air in the moving line, expect her to be one of the strongest late.
There's a slight concern she will over-race, however this will be the second sit on her by Damian Lane and he would have learnt plenty from last start.
Randwick Tips
Able Willie
Waller 3YO who was a smart debut winner on the Kensington surface, when starting $2.70 favourite.
He had to overcome plenty of difficulty when checked last time out, yet still did it with ease.
This is harder going straight from Maiden to Listed level, however the stable know how to place them and would expect him to win.
Air To Air
Has been readied for this with two solid trials after a long break (20 weeks).
The multiple trials suggest they are very serious about the first-up run, and taking these lengths indicates she is placed here to win.
She is likely to get well back, however any speed up front and she should be the one dropping on them all late.
Elizabeel
John Sargent mare who has a touch of quality, after contesting plenty of stakes grade races throughout her career.
Although still at Benchmark 78 level for this, the field does appear to lack depth and she can take full advantage.
She gets the gun run from gate 6, and should find a perfect trailing position just in behind the first two pairs.
Gravina
Backed off the map here last start ($2.30 into $1.85) before storming home to just miss by 0.2 lengths behind the smart Big Parade.
She just got too far back last time out and from gate 1 on this occasion, they may opt to race a touch closer.
Fitter now and ridden in a more forward position, she should be winning. Yes.
