22/7/23 Saturday Horse Racing Best Bets for Caulfield

Feature Victorian racing returns to Caulfield this Saturday for a nine-race program including the Bletchingly Stakes.

A field of 10 has been assembled for this year's edition of the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes and Godolphin runner ‘Ingratiating’ is currently the $3.70 favourite to take it out ahead of ‘General Beau’ at $4.60.

Looking very likely that conditions will be perfect with fine weather forecasted and the track rated a Good 4.

The running rail is out 6m the entire circuit, which should see the track play quite evenly with only a slight disadvantage to be midfield or worse from a wide draw.

While there are a few very firm favourites in the markets, it does not look as straightforward from a punting perspective.

I've found quite a number of those favourites to be showing as under true market odds.

Caulfield Race 2 #2 King’s Crossing $2.80

He was superb in defeat last start in the 2500m Mahogany Challenge Final behind ‘First Immortal’ at Flemington.

On that occasion, he ran home in the fastest last 600m and the second-fastest last 200m of the race.

He has been building towards a win in this preparation and this 3YO son of Almanzor gets no better chance than this.

He lands Blake Shinn aboard for the ride, who is not only the most in-form jockey at the meeting, but also has the highest winning strike rate at Caulfield (17.9%).

I'm trusting Blake can get him to have the run of the race just in behind the speed.

Trainer Danny O’Brien is also ticking along pretty well with an excellent recent record of 10 winners from his last 26 runners!

A lot to like about this 3YO Gelding and he should be extremely tough to beat here.

 

Caulfield Race 5 #8 Versilia $11.00

This is quite an open race with a few non-winners and horses in poor form but that does not apply to this 5YO Snitzel mare.

She was pipped right on the line last start on the inside of her by ‘Passione’ and she beat home some of the horses she faces here in ‘Cuban Link’ and ‘Hell Hound’.

Celine Gaudray sticks for the ride and she has a strong winning strike rate at Caulfield, going at 15.4% and returning a 73.6% POT.

She gets back onto dry ground, which looks a major positive given she has 2 wins and 2 placings from 5 runs on the surface.

Plus, she should land in a good spot in running despite drawing barrier 12.

Now at peak fitness with this being her fourth run of the preparation, she is a great chance at the double figures.
