Trainers to Follow

There are some very high winning strike rates amongst trainers with runners at Mornington.

NSW trainer Matthew Smith tops the standings this week with a huge 40% winning strike rate at Mornington at a 105.1% POT.

Smith has just the one runner on the program with stayer ‘Flambeur’ going around in race 4 and paying a very handy price of $31.00.

Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes also have a phenomenal record at Mornington with a career strike rate of 34.4% at the track and 49.2% POT.

The Hawkes team have 3 runners on the Mornington program with ‘Squad’ ($4.60) in race 3, ‘Sebonack’ ($13.00) in race 5 and ‘Sessions Road’ ($14.00) in race 7.

Some very good prices to get behind with their strike rate suggesting at least one of them is likely to win.

Continuing his strong run of form is Mornington-based trainer Jerome Hunter.

Hunter has had 24 winners from his last 100 runners and to further back-up the reasoning to back his runners at this meeting, Hunter also has 23.1% winning strike rate on his home track.

Hunter has just the one runner on the program in race 5 with 4yo Gelding ‘Our Redente’ currently paying $5.50.

The other two trainers with over 20 winners from their last 100 runners are Lindsey Smith, who has been a regular in this article for months now, and Grahame Begg.

Smith has 23 winners from his last 100 runners and has just the one runner on the Mornington program with ‘Feurmond’ paying $21.00 in race 4.

Begg has had 22 winners from his last 100 runners and will look to continue his solid record with his two runners on the Mornington program.

Import ‘Rivaport’ ($12.00) in race 2 and top hope in the Mornington Cup in race 8 with ‘Nonconformist’ ($5.00).

Jockeys to Follow

Veteran jockey Damien Oliver tops the standings for strike rates amongst jockeys at Mornington with a very strong 21.3% winning strike rate at the track.

Surprisingly, Oliver has just 3 rides on the program at Mornington (all at handy prices) with ‘Squad’ in race 3, ‘Van Roy’ ($16.00) in race 5 and ‘Tapa Capall’ ($11.00) in race 6.

A jockey very much worth following at Mornington is Jamie Mott.

Mott has an impressive 18.5% winning strike rate at Mornington (with 70 wins) and also has been in solid form with 17 winners from his last 100 rides.

Mott has 6 rides on the program with the pick of them looking to be ‘Rovho Amber’ ($5.00) in race 1, ‘Tax Free Prophet’ ($18.00) in race 3, ‘Elkington Road’ ($7.00) in race 6 and ‘Gear Up’ ($18.00) in the Mornington Cup in race 8.

Jordan Childs is the most in-form jockey riding at this meeting with 21 winners from his last 100 rides.

Childs has a ride in every race bar races 3 and 5 and the pick of his rides look to be ‘Le Zebra’ ($11.00) in race 1, ‘Rivaport’ ($12.00) in race 2, ‘Tobaysure’ ($8.00) in race 4 and ‘Nonconformist’ ($5.00) in race 8 in the Cup.
