The Valley plays host to Listed Carylon and McKenzie Stakes' Day, two feature races which are sure to give punters a taste of the Spring ahead.

The track is currently rated a Good 4 as of Thursday afternoon but with some rain predicted this Friday, participants could be met with a rain affected surface in the Soft 5 range.

The rail is situated in the true position for the entire circuit and at this set-up, race results are likely to be determined by tempo and talent rather than any bias.

Moonee Valley Race 1 #4 Decent Raine $4.80

I'm keen on Decent Raine here in the opener for the Maher & Eustace camp, with the all important booking of J Allen to steer.

She resumed at Echuca last start over 1000m on a Heavy 10 and couldn't have been any more impressive when winning by 5 lengths.

She was forced to sit three and four wide without cover the entire trip, but still ran the fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m of the entire day to score.

It was a dominant and well deserved victory, which tied in nicely with form-lines from her 2YO prep that included a very unlucky 8th in a Caulfield Group 2.

Now second-up and even fitter, she gets a lovely 'Valley' map which looks to have her sitting in 3rd or 4th right in behind the leaders.

With a soft run in transit and room to move at the top of the straight, she can be going right past them with her sharp turn of foot to take this out.

I'm hoping that her price will drift from the current quote as well.

Punters are likely to steer clear of the Heavy 10 Echuca form-line, especially after some runners performed poorly on Wednesday after coming off heavy track wins at Donald.

However, I'm confident she has returned this prep in exceptional style and can take out this first race on the program.

The Valley Race 3 #3 Corner Pocket $2.60

The extremely exciting Corner Pocket resumes here off an 8-week let up, and looks to add to his current winning streak of six on-the-bounce.

He was last seen winning at Caulfield over the 1440m in BM84 level, and doing it with ease as he won by over 2 lengths eased down late.

The stable have given him a break to prepare him for a Spring assault, and he will retain residual fitness from the Winter campaign.

He gets the perfect Valley map here, as everything falls into place from barrier one.

He will bounce straight up on speed and look to control proceedings in the small field.

Look for him to skip away on the turn and prove awfully hard to catch over the 1200m.

He is also proven at this track and trip, winning easily here back in November last year.

Although this is technically his hardest challenge yet, he strikes a fairly weak BM90 and the impending scratching of Front Page only adds to his chances of winning.

It is yet to be seen what heights this Toronado gelding will reach this prep, but this looks the perfect starting point to find out.
