Early oil for Sunday racing in Tasmania

Tagged: Devonport, Best Bet Tips, Jacob Bevis

Devonport plays host to a completive eight-race card on Sunday afternoon, headlined by the $50,000 Sheffield Cup.

The 1650m Handicap event is the final lead-up to the Devonport Cup next month.

The Devonport track is a 1500m circuit with a Tapeta Synthetic surface suited to all weather conditions.

Devonport Race 5 Tip #2 Aragon Star $4.85

The Leanne Gaffney trained four-year-old mare will be attempting to make it back-to-back wins today.

I was impressed by her last start victory over 1150m at this track. She flew home from the back to score a 1.5 length win after racing wide throughout the run.

I have no doubt there is more improvement to come, given she is now second-up and is yet to run a bad race at this track (3:2-0-1).

From barrier 2, jockey Brendon McCoull can settle her off midfield before telling her to go at the top of the straight.

From there, she will have every possible chance to win this contest and I expect her to do so in style.

Devonport Race 8 Tip #3 Boom Dot Com $1.82

The Glenn Stevenson trained four-year-old mare has had four starts this preparation for two wins and one placing.

She stuck to the task and ran down the leader to record a narrow win last start over 1650m at this track.

She rises to 1850m for the first time, and her recent runs suggest that the distance will suit.

She will benefit from the 5.5kg weight drop, which should give her every chance to see out the trip.

From barrier 7, I'm predicting jockey Codi Jordan to settle her midfield before making her run down the straight to win.
