My free best bets for today take place at Orange, with punters set to dissect a competitive 7 race card.

The rail is out 3.5m from the 500m-300m mark, where the cutaway rail applies.

The track is rated a Heavy 8 and at this set up, I expect runners that can build momentum on turning for home and find the middle of the track to hold an advantage.

Orange Race 1 #6 Neon Moon $3.00

This Dean Mirfin trained galloper produced a career peak run on a Heavy track last start and looks well suited today.

In what looks a race in two between Neon Moon and favourite Shaddy, I'm more than happy to side with the former, who will carry only 53.5kg after the claim for Jackson Searle.

Not only does he carry 7.5kg less than the favourite, but he maps to be a few pairs in front of him and is proven on a wet track.

From barrier 6, look for Searle to sit on speed before building the revs on the turn for home.

He'll relish the conditions and should prove hard to catch.

 

Orange Race 4 #5 Press Sydney $3.60

The runner-up to Neon Moon last start, we'll have a better idea on how this guy is set perform after the first.

The gap to 3rd was 4.91-lengths in that clash, so it's fair to suggests that the top two from that race are worth following.

That run was over 1400m on a heavy track, so we know he'll relish today's conditions and the engagement of Ashley Morgan is a big plus.

Morgan rode two winners at Armadale yesterday, so he's in good form.

From barrier 9, I expect Morgan to sit mid-field in the running line, before peeling off them on the turn and flying at them late.
