Feature Victorian Saturday racing returns to Melbourne’s South East with Sandown Racecourse playing host to a nine-race program kicking off at 12:35 pm.
This meeting features two Group 3 races which come up in race 2, the Chairman's Stakes over 1000m for the 2yos, and race 7 the Bellmaine Stakes over 1300m.
After a dominant debut performance up the Flemington straight, ‘Veecee' is the current $2.60 favourite to take out the Chairman's Stakes ahead of the Griffiths & de Kock-trained ‘Serasana’ at $2.90.
Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained ‘Snapped’ holds narrow favouritism in the Bellmaine at $4.20 ahead of ‘Rose Quartz’ at $4.80 in a wide open betting race.
The track is currently rated as a Good 4 but with rain forecasted, predicting we will be looking at a Soft 6-7.
The running rail comes out 3m after previously being in the True position.
Sandown Hillside plays quite evenly, especially when the running rail is in the 3m position with the only slight disadvantage being drawn an inside barrier and settling midfield.
The most profitable positions in running are wide barriers (8+) up on-pace and middle-outside barriers (4+) settling midfield.
Sandown Hillside Race 5 #13 Rheinberg $9.50
The former New Zealander has settled into racing in Australia nicely so far with two runs for a win and a 2nd behind a very smart type in ‘Nunthorpe’ last start.
Jockey Michael Dee sticks on for the ride here third-up (1:0-1-0) and he is drawn nicely in barrier 9 to land up towards the speed.
This set up is one of the most profitable and most successful positions to be in at Sandown Hillside.
While the form from his first-up win has not stood up too well, his run behind ‘Nunthorpe’ last start certainly will with that runner expected to go onto big things for the Peter Moody stable.
With a gun run up on what looks to be a slow pace, he should be right in the finish once again and will take a good one to knock him off.
Sandown Hillside Race 6 #3 Daytona Bay $2.60
His price isn’t overly appealing but his winning chances are too good to pass up here first-up, where he is a perfect 2/2.
Top jockey and trainer combination link up here, particularly at Sandown, with Jamie Kah going at a 20.5% winning strike rate and Peter Moody having a 19.2% winning strike rate.
Draws perfectly in barrier 2 and should land himself up on-pace with ease.
Will get conditions to suit with the soft track where he has 3 starts for 2 wins and a placing, and a race shape that will see him be very tough to run down.
In for a big Autumn and it all starts here for this 4yo son of American Pharaoh.
