When you have meetings like this, you know Spring has arrived.
A strong Group 2 P.B Lawrence Stakes headlines with plenty of value on offer.
Group 1 Doncaster winner ‘Mr Brightside’ returns and is a $2 hot-shot to win the feature over 1400m.
Toorak Handicap winner ‘Tuvalu’ ($7) and Australian Guineas runner-up ‘Attrition’ ($7.50) stand as the two main dangers.
A hot field of 3YO fillies make up the Group 3 Quezette Stakes over 1100m in race 6.
This sees the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained ‘Charm Stone’ sit as $3.40 favourite ahead of Queenslander ‘Skirt The Law’ ($4.20).
While a couple of smart 3YO Colts return in the Group 3 Vain Stakes with Godolphin runner ‘Cylinder’ currently the $1.70 favourite to beat Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner ‘Little Brose’ ($5.50).
The track is currently a Good 4 and despite a little bit of rain being about Friday, it should keep its current rating.
The running rail is out 9m, after previously being out 6m, and this should see it being heavily favoured to those on-pace.
I’ve found two that really stand out from the pack and can follow up from last week’s winners.
Caulfield Race 4 #5 Marble Arch $11.00
The former New Zealander burst onto the scene with 3 outstanding wins in his first 3 races in Australia before going into a Listed Bendigo Guineas where she finished 6th.
She looks to have come back in strong order with two solid jumpouts when hitting the line hard late under a strong hold.
This is a big step up in class for her but she has plenty of progression in her and has the ability to go into stronger races than this.
Daniel Stackhouse takes the ride and holds 3 wins from 4 rides on the 4yo mare.
Throw in that he has been in solid form with 16 winners from his last 100 rides and it's a match in heaven.
The race looks to set up well for her to unleash her powerful turn of foot from midfield, off the back of a likely strong pace.
Look for her to be charging home at the end.
Caulfield Race 5 #4 Amenable $4.00
After an excellent preparation last campaign, this 4YO from the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr stable looks to have come back in good order.
He did not have a lot of room in his jump-out victory but once he got clear under Damian Lane, he accelerated quickly and won with ease.
Lane sticks for the ride here and is one of the ‘Jockeys to Follow’ this week with his 13.7% winning strike rate at Caulfield.
Price & Kent Jnr also have solid stats with a 15.5% winning strike rate at Caulfield and 19 winners from their last 100 runners, making this a formidable jockey & trainer partnership.
He has stacks of ability and this is the easiest class of racing he has been in for his entire career to date.
If Lane gets him into a good position around midfield from the tricky barrier, he has the turn of foot to reel in those who will settle in front of him.
