My free best bets for today take place at Muswellbrook, with a competitive 8 race card ahead.

The rail is out 3m from the 1200m - 300m before the cutaway applies, with the track rated a Soft 5.

Inside draws will be an advantage from the 1500m, 1450m and 1280m starting points. Meanwhile the 1000m and 900m starts play quite even, given there is only one turn to navigate off a long run.

Muswellbrook Race 1 #11 Tupelwara $17.00

This son of Deep Field looked the real deal at his second trial, defeating the talented Kiss Sum over 800m at Newcastle.

He went to Grafton for his debut and was well supported late from $9.50 into $6.50, before failing to run on. It was reported that he was shin sore post race, so the run can be forgiven.

He was then sent to the paddock and now returns off a 24-week spell and has received the ultimate gear change in a gelding operation.

His recent trial was strong enough to suggest he'll be competitive today and if he's sound, I think we'll see a big run.

 

Muswellbrook Race 3 #2 King and King $5.50

This new addition to the Annabel Neasham yard returns off a 61-week spell with two trials under his belt.

His South Australian runs have him rating well on top of his rivals, but the obvious query is first up off the long spell.

He improved significantly from his first trial into his second and should be forward enough to tackle this opposition.

He obviously has some ability, otherwise he wouldn't have been sent to this stable.

He's another who has been gelded for this prep and I can't imagine they'll be wanting to return to Muswellbrook for an easy kill again, so he should be forward enough to win.

From barrier 2, Koby Jennings is likely to sit two pairs back, before peeling off heels and finding clean air.

His best is good enough to win this and at the $5.50, he's worth a bet.
