Sandown Hillside plays host to a strong mid-week twilight card on Wednesday, with healthy fields and competitive betting races set to be the theme of the afternoon.

The track is currently rated a Good 4, with fine weather predicted across Melbourne this week.

Participants will be met with a dry racing surface, with the possibility of an upgrade into the Good 3 range.

The rail is out 9m the entire circuit. At this set-up, I expect on-speed horses to hold the key and backmarkers to find it difficult to run on.

Sandown Hillside Race 1 Tip #1 Bayvista $3.60

This Hawkes trained gelding returns for his second career start here, following a very sound showing on debut at Moonee Valley.

Bayvista sat outside the lead that day over the 1200m journey. After looking beaten on the turn, he rallied late to hold ground on the winner who has plenty of talent.

Stepping up to 1400m here and with race experience on his side, he looks perfectly placed.

The 1.5kg claim for Michael Poy sees him well in at the weights, carrying only 56.5kg. From barrier five and with the light weight, he maps well to sit outside the leader.

With natural progression and on-pace favours likely, this looks the ideal set up for Bayvista to break through at start number two.

Sandown Hillside Race 6 Tip #7 Hey Mighty $2.70

This Waterhouse & Bott trained colt returns to midweek grade after contesting a BM70 at Flemington last start.

Second-up on that occasion, he led and boxed on well holding his ground to run fifth by 3.95-lengths.

Dropping in grade to a BM64 and sticking to the mile third-up is a plus, as is the complete lack of speed in this race.

Third-up and now at peak fitness, Hey Mighty looks set to roll forward and lead in typical Waterhouse/Bott fashion.

With the rail out 9m and a class edge on his side, it'll prove difficult for anything to run him down.
