17/8/20 Best horse racing tips today

Cessnock hosts a seven race card this Monday which can give the punters a winning start to the week.

The track is currently rated a Heavy 10 and with sunshine forecast in the lead-up and on race day, expect a Soft - Heavy track.

The rail is out True position which generally favours those on pace.

 

 

From the stewards

There are several runners of note who have featured heavily in the pre-steward's report for this meeting.

The one I want to mention is Super Swish running around in race 7.

The Swiss Ace mare ran into lots of trouble last start and should go a lot better here. She was held up in the early part of the straight and then had to be steadied when the leader drifted across. When she was held up in the straight, she attempted to get into better ground but couldn't which affected her finishing position.

Expect a rock hard fit showing and a much more improved run up in distance.

Cessnock Race 4 Tip #2 Star Raider 

The Star Witness gelding will look to improve from his last start fourth.

At Taree first up, Star Raider started off well enough and sat in an ideal position but looked to knock up a little late in the piece. The mixture of a little bit of inexperience by the jockey, first up and on a heavy track all contributed to the gelding's downfall.

He gets the chance to go one better here from a positive draw. Aaron Bullock joins the gelding again which provides confidence and the step back from a benchmark 58 to class 1 could prove a winning formula.

From the draw, Bullock will get the gelding into a similar position to last start and peel off them around the corner. With the fitness improvement, expect him to be right there when the whips are cracking.
