Caulfield plays host to G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes day, with the main feature accompanied by a host of other black-type races.
The track is currently rated a soft 5 and with further rain predicted, participants will be met with a likely heavy track.
The rail is out +6m the entire circuit and at this set-up, it will be an advantage to race on speed.
Caulfield Race 2 Tip #4 Port Albert $5.60
A smart prospect returns here for the in-form Nick Ryan stable, with Port Albert set to do battle in this open event for the 3yo's.
He ran very credibly in two starts in his first prep, including a debut 3rd in the Listed Redoute's at Caulfield and a 2nd at Sandown behind the smart Hell Hound.
He proved he could handle all track conditions by running well on both a good 4 and a heavy 8.
First up here, he looks to have developed in his time off and is ready to fire fresh.
Two jump-out wins at Flemington leading into this 1000m run should have him race-day fit.
The middle draw will suit his racing style, and he definitely has the advantage of being able to handle rain-affected tracks.
I'm encouraged by the booking of Damian Lane, signalling intent from the stable for a strong first-up performance.
Caulfield Race 5 Tip #5 Boogie Dancer $6.50
An evenly matched edition of the G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude this year, and I'm siding with a proven winning combination of Nolen and Moody.
Boogie Dancer has been extremely impressive this prep, continuing to fly a touch under the radar even though she has won three from five career starts.
She was an ultra-impressive winner on a heavy 9 at Sandown two starts back, putting them away by close to 4 lengths and ticking off the wet track box.
And she managed to beat Berkeley Square two runs ago, who seemingly is a G1 horse in waiting and has plenty of ability.
At her last start at The Valley in the Listed Atlantic Jewel, she was completely luckless after getting back in running and being held up at a crucial stage.
She got forced back to the fence at the top of the straight and also got caught on heels again over the winning post.
She somehow still managed a last 200m split that was the 10th best of the meeting and she arguably goes close to winning with even luck.
Rock hard fit, handles wet going, and back up to 1400m are all massive positives for her today.
I do concede she has drawn an awful barrier, but Luke Nolen is one of the best in the business and if he can overcome the draw, she will go very close.
