Here we go!

The first race meeting at Headquarters for the Spring and what a program there is to be run at fabulous Flemington.

A bumper ten-race program featuring:

  • Four Listed races
  • Two Group 2s in the Let’s Elope Stakes and the Bobbie Lewis Quality
  • The big one, the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m.

‘Mr Brightside' will be looking to continue his ‘picket fence’ of wins and add another Group 1 to his unreal list of accomplishments.

The Makybe Diva Stakes sees largely a rematch of the Memsie Stakes with all bar 2 runners coming out of that race.

It is rare that a race gets just as much attention as a Group 1 feature but the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes has just that.

W.A superstar Amelia’s Jewel makes her highly anticipated debut on the Eastern side of the country and is a $1.75 favourite to make the first run a winning one.

The Bobbie Lewis Quality over 1200m in race 9 also provides a massive amount of interest.

This race has produced sprinters that have gone on to run in the $15 million TAB Everest.

This year’s edition sees 4YO mare ‘Benedetta’ look to continue her outstanding record with a 7th win in her 9th start.

She does face a high quality field to achieve that feat however with the likes of Group 1 winners ‘Zoutori’ and ‘Startantes’, Group 3 winners ‘King Of Sparta’ ‘It’sourtime’ and the highly-touted ‘Star Patrol’.

With all the great racing also comes some top best bets.

Looking to keep the winning streak alive and well with at least one of these two saluting.

Flemington Race 2 #2 Interpretation $5.00

Sticking with him as he looks set to hit his best third-up (2:1-0-1) and up in distance to the 2500m.

He ran an excellent race to finish 3rd behind ‘Lunar Flare’ at this track and distance in the Group 3 Bart Cummings when he was third-up last preparation.

Has produced two outstanding runs for two placings so far this preparation at the Valley, where he just ran out of time on the short straight to run the winners down.

He comes to the big Flemington track, which he will appreciate and looks to get the race run to suit as they will get along at a solid pace in front.

Top jockey Mark Zahra sticks for the ride and he will hard to keep out from charging over the top of them.

Flemington

Flemington Race 10 #16 Carini $3.20

High excitement and expectation to see what this former French runner can do here in his second Australian race start.

He was enormous first-up when running 3rd over the 1400m at Caulfield in a hot form race won by ‘Amenable’.

It is a race that has already produced 4 subsequent winners and he faces a rematch with ‘Devoted’ who beat him home last start.

They meet each other equal at the weights but expect ‘Carini’ to make great improvement second-up and out in distance to be able to turn the tables.

Has serious ability and he will go on to be a big contender this Spring in better races after this.
