Early oil for Caulfield Cup Day

Caulfield plays host to the time honoured Caulfield Cup program, with the feature event over 2400m to be run at 5:15pm local time.
Taken out last year by Verry Elleegant, other winners of the Group 1 classic include Mer De Glace, Jameka, Dunaden and Viewed.
There are nine other races on the card as well, and it looks a cracking betting program.
The track is currently rated a soft 6 and with more rain predicted, participants will be met with a wet racing surface.
The rail is true the entire circuit, at this set-up, expect the inside lanes to chop out as the day goes on.
Caulfield Race 4 #10 Kapalua Sunset $2.10
A short favourite here in the G3 Ethereal Stakes, but a deserved one at that as this Tavistock filly looks to make it two on the bounce.
She was unbelievably dominant in a Kyneton maiden over 1900m last start, which doesn't sound much on paper until you watch how she won it.
After sitting midfield, B Prebble made a move around the runners before the turn, and by the time the field straightened she was already 5L ahead of them.
She managed to run the 2nd fastest 400-200m split of the entire day, and was eased down over the line for a 7L win.
It proved her key abilities to relax in run, sprint well when asked, and stay a long trip. She was immediately moved into favouritism for the G1 Oaks.
This looks a perfect lead up run for that race, coming to the 2000m at group level on another wet track.
She looks to map perfectly midfield, will relish in these conditions, and has the raw ratings to improve further off that last start win as well.
After all that is considered, I think her price is very fair and am confident that only bad luck will beat her here.
Caulfield Race 6 Tip #8 Buffalo River $3.20
Was about to put Buffalo River in the sea, before I saw that he accepted in this very winnable race on a crucial wet track.
He has had two runs this prep so far, including a 10th in the G1 Rupert Clarke, and a 2nd last Saturday in the Listed Weekend Hustler behind Kahma Lass.
He led that field up at a very moderate tempo, and was just no match over the final few strides for the winner.
The key to this horse is a wet track and an easy lead in front, and he will get both of those here in this race.
Undefeated from two starts on a heavy deck, and is 6:3-2-1 on softer going, he is a deadset wet tracker. Those wet wins include a Silverbowl final, and two open handicaps in town.
He also maps for an almost uncontested lead, with the only other go forward horse in the race being Morvada. He should be able to bounce and find the front, and control proceedings from here.
If he is able to sneak a margin on his rivals on the turn, they will have a very hard time running him down now third up and sticking to 1400m.
I have him marked at $2.80, and am therefore very happy to bet at his current price.
