Best plays for Monday racing in Victoria

Victorian racing heads to Hamilton on Monday, for a competitive 8-race card.

The rail is situated in the true position, with fine weather forecast for the South West region of Victoria.

The track is rated a Heavy 10, so punters should be on the lookout for any track bias as the meeting progresses.

I've identified 5-races today that represent good betting opportunities.

Go in the running to win $1,000 in cash prizes each month.

From the stewards

Art Major in race 4 will be sure to improve second-up. Last start he broke through the barriers, before being vetted and cleared to run.

He was then slowly away, before being shuffled back beyond mid-field. He managed to run the second fastest 800m of the race, closing well into fifth.

The blinkers go off today, which should help him settle a little better in the run and the step-up to 1400m is suitable.

Jockey to follow

Dean Yendall rides the Hamilton course better than anyone.

In the past 12 months, Stackhouse has had 31 rides for 7 wins!

The hoop has 3-rides today, with his best chance coming in race 4 on Art Major.

Best Bet: Race 8 #5 Swanky Cat $6.50

The gelding by Street Boss has had four-career wins, with three of these coming on Heavy tracks.

He was dominant on a Heavy surface first-up this prep, winning by 3.75 lengths.

His three subsequent runs have been full of merit and he gets conditions to suit back on to a rain affected surface.

After scratchings, he comes in to barrier 12 which should be a positive, given this race is late in the day when the better going should be out wide.

Now fifth up with fitness on his side, I expect him to relish the 1400m and prove too strong for his rivals.
