Doomben Race 4 Tip #2 Allusionist $2.00

This three-year-old from the Richard and Michael Freedman stable has placed in all 3 career starts to date.

Last start he just missed in a driving finish behind Release The Beans and that juvenile form was franked after Release The Beans saluted in a three-year-old handicap event last week.

The Freedman’s must be keen to break his maiden in this Queensland midweek race, as they would have had the option to take him back to Sydney.

Taylor Marshall will ride him again and look to go one better this time.

Marshall has the luxury of a rails draw and will position the son of Super One, three back the fence.

Expect him to work him into the clear in the straight and put them away over the final 100 metres.

Newcastle Race 4 Tip #8 Cat D'oro $6.50

I'm keen on this 4YO gelding out of the Chris Waller yard.

While he's yet to taste victory in his short career to date, he showed enough evidence in his last run to suggest he is dying to break through with the right ride.

Last start he trailed the leader's back the whole trip but with the sharp turning course at Wyong, got boxed in along the rail and couldn't get out.

Under a hold he ran on to finish third behind the two front runners who crossed the line together.

Today he gets to the spacious Newcastle track, which will be much more suited to his style of racing.

Look for him to hold a forward position once again from the soft draw and when he gets presented to the outside, he'll be able to swallow up his competition with ease.

A great value bet !

Free Horse Racing Tips from Cody Lane

 

Sandown Race 5 Tip #7 Eagles Crag $3.20

Connections have big plans for this horse come Spring and this looks an ideal race to kick off his preparation .

The former U.K. horse made his first start in Australia at Pakenham on a Thursday night and he produced a performance that was a sight to behold, romping home by 5.8 lengths.

There has been some extremely good horses who have produced dominant wins like that at Pakenham in recent years, including Russian Camelot. Trainer Archie Alexander will hope his horse can go on a similar trajection.

Eagles Crag has serious talent and he showed it was no fluke by winning again at Sandown the following start. 

He resumes today on the back of a soft jump-out leading in. Star jockey Jamie Kah takes the reigns and looks to get a gun run in the race from barrier four.

With the long downhill Sandown straight, this maturing 5YO stallion can really build up momentum before the bend to put his rivals away

Newcastle Race 7 Tip #9 Defeat $4.40

I’m looking to end the day on a high note with this six-year-old gelding presenting good value in the last race.

The key to his full potential is racing on dry tracks, as his 14 starts for 4 wins suggests.

This was made evident with his last start demolition job at Wyong over the 1350m in BM64 grade.

This specific race was run brutally with the leader, Big Surprise, going 10 lengths faster than the average BM speed to the 600m.

Despite racing wide and having to present himself even wider on the turn, Defeat was excellent when drawing away from Big Surprise late.

This was the fastest of the three 1350m races on the day.

He lines up well here from barrier 2 to enjoy a soft, cosy run along the inside rail with cover midfield. Jeff Penza is booked for the ride, and he drops 1.5kg from his last start.

I have question marks around the favourite Soami at the trip, in addition to coming out of a slowly run 1100m race where he had all favours. 

Defeat is a tremendous bet at the price.

Doomben Race 5 Tip #1 Le Figaro $5.50

This Matthew Dunn trained mare lines up for her first run in 4 weeks after a short freshen up.

I have been following her this campaign and she finally strikes a race to break her string of placings.

Much like myself, I am sure plenty of punters were on their feet as she stormed home in both her previous starts to finish a head, then a neck behind the winners.

For today's race, she jumps from barrier 4 and jockey James Orman will allow her to drift back in the field behind a hot tempo set by the speed out wide.

Orman will have plenty of confidence in the mare, as he was one of the first to ride her in one of her early trials at the track last year.

This will be the five-year-old’s first start in Queensland in 9 months, but expect the conditions to suit her to a tee.

The soft track will allow her to sit back and hit the line hard and be among the top contenders left in the fight.
