Doomben Race 9 Tip #7 Kingston's Here $2.30

This son of Rich Enuff is flying this campaign and has plenty of scope for improvement in this 3YO's Handicap.

First-up after a spell, this lightly raced gelding made a mess of them. He defeated second placed Bad Barista by 4 lengths, with the two meeting again this weekend.

At his latest run he raced rearward and came with a strong finish, however couldn’t hold off another boom youngster Garoppolo who got to the best part of the track on that day.

Even though Kingston's Here finished second on that occasion, the form lines stack up as they ran the quickest of four 1200m races on that day at Eagle Farm.

He now looks right for the step up to 1350m, and jockey Ben Thompson should be full of confidence after guiding the Grafton Guineas winner Tamilaide home from last to first on Wednesday.

Thompson has the option of either going forward to set an even tempo, or drop him out again to the second half of the field from the wide gate to steam home late.

A lot of the opposition in this race performed better at their last prep, so I can see this grey star on the rise having their measure in this clash.

Caulfield Race 7 Tip #9 Chief Altony $3.80

This 4YO gelding is lightly raced and possesses a stack of potential.

He is going to love the fast speed in this race which will be set by Jittery Jack, Vegas Knight, Ballet Master and Strategic Phil.

In-form apprentice Tom Stockdale gelled with him last start, when he finished on strongly to win over the 1600m at Sandown Lakeside.

Look for him to get a midfield position and with only 54kg on his back, expect him to charge late and finish right over the top of his opposition.

Randwick Race 7 Tip #6 Ashim $9.00

I'm keen to back this Matthew Smith imported gelding at his second start in Australia.

His first-up run at big odds was full of potential, finishing 4th to the in-form Pappal Warrior after two quiet trials.

Since then, he has had another trial at Canterbury in similar conditions that he will face this weekend. In that hit-out, he got through the heavy ground with no concerns under minimal riding.

The 1300m will suit second up and he will be rock hard fit now.

When I do form for heavy tracks, I look for horses that are proven to handle the trip and and even further.

With form up to 2200m in France, expect jockey Brenton Avdulla and Ashim to give punters a nice top up towards the end of the card.

Doomben Race 8 Tip #4 Roman Aureus $3.20

I loved the return of this gelding at Ipswich.

He was a touch tardy away from the gates and then got held up in the straight. He managed to get going late to finish 1 length off the winner, but was very unlucky.

He will likely strike a heavy track on Saturday and the son of Red Element should lap it up.

His record second up is 4 from 4 at this track and distance.

Expect a more positive ride this time in from the good gate and he will prove much too strong for this opposition in the home straight.

Belmont Race 5 Tip #7 Mountain Ash $11.00

Mountain Ash put in an eye-catching debut for the Adam Durrant stable.

The 2YO gelding drew wide and dropped well back to find the fence and would have been a good 6/7 lengths off them at the 800m mark.

He hunted up the inside and had his momentum halted at least twice, but kept grinding away only being beaten by 0.1 length by the $1.40 favourite Astrape.

The 1000m was clearly too short for him on debut and the step up to 1400m second up looks far more suitable.

From the favourable draw in this clash, Mountain Ash will be able to settle midfield or better. The way he hunted up the fence on debut suggests to me he can show some tactical speed.

The trial and debut run suggest the going of the track shouldn't be an issue, with Mountain Ash set to put in a great run at big odds.
