Caulfield plays host to Sir John Monash Stakes Day on Saturday, with big competitive fields the theme of a good afternoon's racing.

The track is currently rated a Soft 6 and with fine weather predicted in Melbourne, horses will be met with an improving racing surface, moving into the Soft 5 range and possibly even a Good 4 later in the program.

The rail is true for the entire circuit and at this set-up, it is typically advantageous to settle midfield or better.

Caulfield Race 2 Tip #4 Deep Speed $2.60

I'm keen on the resuming Deep Speed here for team McEvoy and Jamie Kah, who could be riding metro winner number 100 for the season in this event.

The Deep Field gelding comes into this off the back of two jump outs. He was asked to do absolutely naught in the first one, but was pushed out and extended through the line in the second one at Ballarat.

I loved the turn of foot he showed to win that jump out, and looks to be returning this prep in fine order.

He is a proven fresh performer, winning easily on debut in Adelaide before coming to Melbourne and cruising to victory at his second start. He then went on to run very high-rating efforts against quality opposition.

He's very well weighted with only 54.5kg and in a race with limited speed on paper, he looks to land straight on the bunny and control proceedings from there.

The booking of Kah is obviously a huge positive, but just be wary about the influence she has over markets to make horses a shorter price than they should be.

Due to that, I advise taking the price now at $2.60 with a number of bookies. That is about his right price, anything below the $2.40 mark will be under the odds.

If Kah fails to win the first race, don't be surprised to see punters pile into this favourite in Race 2 as she aims for 100 wins, and move him in to a poison quote in the market.

Caulfield Race 3 Tip #13 La Bella Costa $16.00

I'm very surprised at the price of La Bella Costa here, and I will be stepping into the double figures on offer for race number three.

She comes into this 1100m BM78 third-up into the prep, off a very strong return at Flemington and a completely forgivable Adelaide effort.

Her last 200m at Flemington fresh was very encouraging, storming through the line off a solid tempo to finish fourth, only beaten 1 length.

Zorro's Dream finished just ahead of her that day, but La Bella Costa was taking off very good ground late and was even with that runner past the post.

Zorro's Dream now starts favourite in this race, and I simply cannot understand the price difference seeing that Zorro rises in weight off that run, and La Bella Costa holds 54kg.

The Morphettville Parks run last start is a complete forgive. It is near impossible to make any ground on that track and after settling midfield behind a leader who ran slow splits in front and ended up winning, I'm more than happy to forget it.

She's third-up now and fit, draws perfectly and gets back to 1100m which is very suitable.

I have her marked $6, each way all day!
