Caulfield plays host to a huge afternoon of Group 1 racing on Saturday, with three top level events to be decided over the course of Guineas Day.
The track is currently rated a Soft 5 and with fine weather predicted, participants will be met with a perfect racing surface.
The rail is situated in the true position for the entire circuit and at this set-up, there could be a slight advantage to horses who settle above midfield.
Caulfield Race 3 Tip #9 Ocean Beyond $8.00
A cracking field is assembled here for the Listed Village Stakes. Although Lombardo looks like a very smart runner, the price is too short for me so I have angled for an each way play instead.
Ocean Beyond represents great value, coming off an extremely unlucky run here over 1100m when resuming.
He saw nothing but backside for the entirety of the straight until the last 50m, when he got a split and under no riding hit the line very well.
It was an extremely unlucky run behind He's A Balter, who has since won again nicely which franks the form line of the race.
His trials leading into this prep were superb, and I'm convinced he has come back in top order.
He struggled in two outings last campaign and was immediately spelled, so it was pleasing to see his work leading into the fresh run be so strong.
Second-up now, he holds the low weight of 54kg and from a nice draw is unlikely to experience any of the traffic issues from last start.
I believe his turn of foot is good enough to run down the favourite, and at least finish in the placings.
A 1x2 type of bet looks acceptable here, I have him marked as a $5.50 chance.
Caulfield Hillside Race 7 Tip #4 Tailleur $4.80
This is a very strong edition of this year's Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes, but i'm very keen on the Godolphin runner who comes into this clash third-up and ready to peak.
I thought she was strong behind Fituese in the Group 3 Toy Show when resuming, holding ground through the line to be only beaten by 1.5 lengths.
She then went to the Group 2 Sheraco last start, and was ridden completely upside down from the wide barrier.
Restrained at the start, she ended up settling last and hoped for inside runs in the straight while the winner Entriviere swooped out wider.
She was clearly in the worst going and it looked like an impossible winning position for her, considering she likes to be handy in running.
She had a tick over trial at Hawkesbury to keep her right on the mark for this third-up assignment.
She loves the 1200m, with a record that read 4:3-1 prior to her forgettable Sheraco run last start.
The mare has drawn perfectly in barrier four, and looks set to lob in a great position with cover in behind the leaders.
She has proven she can handle the Melbourne way of running, winning a race at The Valley last year by 6 lengths.
Damien Oliver riding is the cherry on top, and I have her marked a $4.00 favourite so am therefore happy to play at this price.
