07/08/21 Saturday racing tips: Lays of the Day

This week we focus on two runners at Randwick that appear well under the odds.

Early on the card in Race 2, a popular elect will be getting a long way back in a slowly run race and may struggle to reel in the leaders.

Whilst in the feature Missile Stakes, I have question marks over the quality of the favourite and how she will handle the inside of the Randwick surface at this stage of the day.

Avoid both at their current prices.

 

Randwick Race 2 #1 Harpo Marx $2.05

Appears to be tapering off this preparation and may still be on the way down.

He was not good enough to run them down last start at Rosehill and faces a similar set up here.

The speed in this race does not look overly strong and given his natural get back and run-on pattern, expect him to run out of runway to reel them all in.

He is again anchored by the big weight of 62.5kg, which appeared to be a factor in his last start midfield finish (5 of 11) at Rosehill.

I expect them to be sprinting hard off the front in this and that is likely to make it extremely difficult for the back markers. Avoid.

 

Randwick Race 7 #7 Fasika $2.80

Happy to be against the favourite here in the feature race on the card at Randwick.

She faces some classy opposition in this year’s edition of the Missile Stakes, including three-time Group 1 winner Kolding.

Granted her first-up record (5:3-1-0) is excellent, however those performance we mostly against much weaker opposition than this.

Gate 1 can also be a negative at Randwick late in the day, especially if they identify faster lanes wider out. From a speed map angle, there are questions marks and possibly pressure from wider out.

There is a big query over her ability to overcome this class field and she appears a great risk at the current odds. Lay.
