Hobart Cup Day is finally here!

The ten-race card is one of the best race days in Tasmania and will get underway at 12.15 pm AEDT.

The $250,000 Group 3 Hobart Cup over 2400m looks to be a mouth-watering contest.

A field of 15 will line-up at the barriers, which includes three interstate visitors in Barade, Double You Tee, and Classic Weiwei.

The last two winners of the event, Eastender (2019) and Toorak Affair (2020), return for another crack at the title.

The day is also headlined by the Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes and Strutt Sakes,  as well as the $150,000 Group 3 Bow Mistress Trophy.

The track is currently rated a Soft 6, with a partly cloudy day forecast.

The rail is out 6m for the entire circuit and at this set-up, punters should watch the first few races to get a guide on how the surface will play.

Hobart Race 3 Tip #2 Need A Gin $1.92

The Adam Trinder trained four-year-old gelding is my best bet of the day, as he comes here off two cracking performances.

He scored a comfortable 1.25 length maiden win two starts ago over 1350m at Devonport, before being narrowly beaten over 1620m at Launceston last start.

I like that he stays at 1600m and the booking of jockey Brendon McCoull only increases his winning chances.

From barrier 6, look for him to get a lovely run off the pace before producing a strong finish down the home straight.

Hobart Race 9 Tip #5 Double You Tee $6.50

I’m backing the Patrick Payne trained six-year-old gelding to win the 2021 edition of the Hobart Cup.

He flew home from the tail and finished second behind Mosh Music over 2400m at Sandown in his latest outing.

He's 470 days in between wins, but he has placed in 10 of his last 17 races including a second placing behind Persan in August.

The form he brings down from Victoria looks the strongest, and the booking of 2020 Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jye McNeil only increases his winning chances.

He returns to the state where he had his first ten career starts, which included placings in two Listed events at this track as a three-year-old.

From barrier 12, the gelding will get back as per his usual racing style, but McNeil will need to get him going at the 600-metre mark to give him every possible chance to win.
